A description of a device that would indicate the presence of microwave radiation is published. It can be used to check the functionality of a cell phone transmitter, etc.

Unlike the similar device described earlier in the Radio magazine (Cell phone radiation detector), the proposed indicator has a much larger range, reaching 10 m.

The scheme of the device is shown in fig. 1. The signal is received on a broadband half-wave antenna, consisting of two vibrators W1 and W2.

The device is made according to the scheme of a direct amplification receiver and contains a radio frequency amplifier (URCH), a detector and a sound indicator. The signal induced in the receiving antenna is amplified by UHF and fed to the detector. The detected signal opens the electronic key assembled on the transistor VT2, and it, in turn, turns on the sound signaling device HA1 - a signal will sound ..

Using the indicator, it is also possible to determine the modes of operation of a cell phone. When the cell phone is connected to the network, the indicator emits short beeps, and when calling and talking to a subscriber, the beep sounds continuously.

Most of the parts are placed on a printed circuit board made of double-sided foil fiberglass, a sketch of which is shown in fig. 2.

View of the mounted indicator without housing is shown in fig. 3.

The finished board is placed in a plastic case, on which a variable resistor R4 is pre-installed (Fig. 4).

The indicator is adjusted by connecting a "fresh" battery according to the generally accepted method. Then check the performance of the indicator and the detection range of the signal by activating the cell phone.

Traffic noise delays the growth of chicks 06.05.2024

The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. Reduced chances of reproduction and decreased fertility indicate the long-term effects that traffic noise has on wildlife. The study results highlight the need ... >>

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

Logs in glass 13.05.2006

The agents used so far for the impregnation of structural wood in order to protect against fire, decay, insects and fungi, as a rule, are based on compounds of arsenic, chromium and other toxic elements. Copper compounds are not as toxic, but corrode nails and other metal fasteners.

The American company "Timbersil" uses sodium silicate - liquid glass - to impregnate wood. It is injected into logs and boards under pressure, and then the wood is kept at a high temperature.

Liquid glass is baked, and now the tree is not afraid of termites, fungi, moisture, or fire.
