Which scientist measured the speed of electric current on living people connected in a circuit?

The speed of electric current is almost equal to the speed of light. In 1746, when this was not yet known, the French priest and physicist Jean-Antoine Nollet wanted to measure the speed of the current experimentally. He arranged 200 monks, connected to each other by iron wires, in a circle more than one and a half kilometers long, and then discharged a battery of Leiden cans, invented a year earlier, into this chain. All the monks reacted to the current in an instant, which convinced Nolle of the very high value of the desired value.

Why did George I become the king of Greece, taking only 18th place in the elections?

In 1862, the Greeks overthrew King Otto, but they did not want to abandon the very idea of \u230b\u95bthe monarchy, deciding to choose a new monarch in a general referendum. There were no ballots with candidates, and any subject could propose his candidacy. A convincing victory with 6 thousand votes (more than 18%) was won by the son of Queen Victoria, Prince Alfred, but he could not become king, since long before that Great Britain, France and Russia signed an agreement under which not a single member of their royal families could take the Greek throne . For the same reason, many other candidates refused the throne, and only the Danish prince Wilhelm, who received only 50 votes and took XNUMXth place, had no objections. It was he, under the name George, who ruled Greece for the next XNUMX years.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. After a hard day at work, people speak faster and louder. 27.06.2022

At the end of a busy day at work, people start talking faster and louder due to the way stress affects breathing. These conclusions were reached by German scientists in the course of a study involving 111 people aged 19-59.

Volunteers during the week assessed how difficult the working day was, and recorded their evening conversations on a dictaphone.

Analysis of audio recordings showed that tired people after stressful situations in the evening begin to pronounce words faster.

This is because stress activates the sympathetic nervous system. Because of this, bronchodilation occurs - the airways open and the person begins to breathe more often. This increases the speed of speech and the volume of the voice.
