Dreaming of equipping an apartment with a "talking" clock, he tried to assemble an acceptable design for himself using standard domestic microcircuits. But after I encountered the difficulties of "firmware" of electronic memory, I decided to adapt the TALKING WATCH wrist alarm clock - a cheap Chinese-made consumer goods - as the basis for my watch. The result is the proposed information system.

An important component of the apartment "talking" clock is a network of speakers and buttons that can be increased depending on the number of rooms. This makes it possible to receive information about the exact time, being in any of the rooms or even in the corridor.

Wanting, for example, immediately after waking up from sleep to clarify what time it is, press the SB1 button. Relays K1 and K5 are activated when receiving power. The first of them is instantly self-blocking (through normally closed K2.2, KZ.2, K4.2). With contacts K1.1, it connects to the output of an amplifier assembled on transistors VT1-VT4, a BA1 loudspeaker with a volume control R1. The non-self-locking turntable K5 by short-term contact closure K5.1 (INTERROGATION) already starts the TALKING WATCH speech synthesizer by this moment, and speech information about the exact time sounds in the bedroom. In the rest of the rooms, the speakers are silent.

It is worth going, say, to the kitchen, pressing the button SB2 installed there (in the hall - SB4, and in the corridor - SB1), like relay K5, if it is self-locking, it inevitably returns to its original state. But paired with K2, K3 is turned on (for other options - K4 or, respectively, KXNUMX).

The electronics are triggered - and the BA2 speaker (VAZ, BA4) gives out speech information about the time.

Home "talking" clock does not require debugging, convenient and reliable in operation. In addition, they look very aesthetically pleasing if the base unit is arranged in the form of an elegant box with a liquid crystal indicator screen displayed on the front panel, MODE, HR, MIN and TALKING reed keys, and wires stretching into each of the rooms (one pair for a button, the second - for the loudspeaker) hide under the plinth.

However, as you know, there is no limit to perfection. Home time service is no exception. It is possible, in particular, to improve its energy supply by replacing the built-in microbatteries in TALKING WATCH with more capacious remote ones with a total voltage of 3 V or with a network adapter that will provide power to both the amplifier and everything else with stabilized 5 and 20 V DC.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Proton hydrogen batteries 11.02.2014

Researchers at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) have developed a new battery concept based on the energy potential of hydrogen. It is this chemical element, according to scientists, that should act as a replacement for lithium as the main source of energy in most modern battery devices.

The announced concept will eliminate the need for the production, recovery, and most importantly, the storage of gaseous hydrogen, which today is the most serious factor limiting the effectiveness and distribution of such systems. The presented solution combines the best practices in the field of hydrogen fuel cells in conjunction with the traditional principles of electric energy storage.

"Since for the battery charging procedure, only the influx of water is sufficient for its further splitting and the use of the nuclei of hydrogen atoms - protons, and in the discharge mode - air, we called our invention "proton-flow battery". In addition to the promising technical solutions incorporated in the invention "Our battery has an impressive potential in economic terms. The production of lithium for modern batteries is a rather laborious process, and the raw material itself is relatively scarce, if we draw an analogy with hydrogen," said Professor John Andrews, head of research from RMIT, in his report. Andrews).

The concept shown is based on the integration of a metal hydride electrode into a fuel cell's Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM). During charging, the protons produced by water splitting are directly "bonded" to electrons and metal particles at the fuel cell electrode, which is integrated into the PEM. As a result, a solid-state hydrogen metal hydride is formed. It is he who acts as a "storage" of electrical energy. When using the electrical resource of such a proton battery, the described processes proceed in reverse order.

Published in the International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, studies have shown that proton flux batteries can achieve similar energy efficiency compared to classic lithium-ion batteries, but the former are able to store significantly more energy per unit mass and volume.

"Hydrogen combines enormous potential as an environmentally friendly source of nutrition. This puts it in a favorable light and pushes modern science to use the element in a fairly wide range of areas," summed up Mr. Andrews.

The Australian research and development demonstrated can be successfully implemented in many aspects of modern life, from household appliances to vehicles and industrial energy storage systems.
