Having bought the player, I decided to adapt an on-board electric generator to power it during my frequent bike trips. I decided to use a homemade semiconductor rectifier as an adapter. The implementation of the idea began by choosing a circuit diagram of a half-wave valve on a diode with a smoothing capacitor. I soon became convinced that a regular bicycle generator with a power of 3-5,4 W and an output voltage of 6-7 V and a modified on-board electrical network using almost any medium-power diode and a capacitor with a capacity of 500-2200 microfarads in the rectifier are quite able to cope with a new task for them. As a result, the player began to receive a 3-volt power supply when the bicycle was moving at a speed of more than 10 km / h with the headlight on and at least 8 km / h - with the power off.

A more complex design, which made it possible to significantly improve the previous performance characteristics, was also made according to the classical scheme, but with an "extra" VD5 diode. Its purpose is to prevent the circuit from closing through an electrolytic capacitor when driving at high speed, the properties of which can change significantly with an increase in the ripple frequency of the rectified current.

Such an adapter is connected to the bike generator using a plug connector (for example, from an old radio). To the player - through its power compartment thanks to self-made tips - substitutes for a set of galvanic cells.

Intensive year-long operation of the modified on-board electrical network with a full-wave adapter showed: the player connected to it works fine, starting from a bicycle speed of 5 km / h (the headlight is de-energized). However, when turning on the electric lighting, the speed should be at least 8-10 km / h.

Replacement tips for a set of galvanic cells: 1 - wooden base; 2 - multicore mounting wire in vinyl insulation; 3 - cathode (housing-electrode "finger" galvanic cell); 4 - anode (nail 3x20 mm, preferably brass).

It turned out that the effectiveness of the on-board network is somewhat reduced in the autumn-spring thaw, as well as during rain. The reason is slippage at the point of contact of the tire with the generator rotor pulley. This is unlikely to affect the popularity of the proposed technical solution only. Indeed, with the advent of the abyss on the roads, even avid cyclists, as a rule, do not go anywhere.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Vector video codec developed 22.12.2012

According to researchers at the University of Bath in the UK, bitmap video encoding could become an anachronism in the coming years. This statement is based on the fact that scientists have managed to develop a video codec that uses a vector representation.

Pixel representation stores color information for each pixel. As the resolution increases, the required amount of memory increases proportionally. Vector representation, in which contours filled with a certain color are highlighted in the image, is more efficient and allows you to scale the image without losing quality. However, until now, it is claimed, there has not been a way to fill the space between the contours with a quality acceptable for professional use.

The Bath team did the trick by removing a hurdle to wide adoption of resolution-independent vector video. According to the participants of the project, their development will revolutionize the production of video materials. Of course, the participation of producers, in particular, companies involved in video post-production, is necessary for success.
