In connection with the constant rise in the cost of utilities, including electricity, its economical use is also becoming relevant. Electric lighting in non-residential auxiliary premises (for example, in pantries, utility rooms, etc.) is most often required for a minute or two in order to take something you need from there or, conversely, put it in storage. But we often forget to turn off the light, and the light bulb continues to burn there unnecessarily, sometimes until the next visit to this room.

The proposed device is a time relay that turns on the light for 1 - 1,5 minutes, and then automatically extinguishes it.

The device is connected in parallel to the standard light switch (SA) and practically does not consume electricity in standby mode.

The figure shows the electrical circuit of the time relay. It contains: two transistors - VT1 and VT2 (KT315G), timing capacitor C1 and resistor R2, parametric stabilizer VD1 (KS168), optothyristor VS1 (TO125-12,5), control button SB1, two current-limiting resistors R1 and R3 and others.

The operation of the device is simple. At the moment it is first turned on with the button B1, the capacitor C1 is discharged, and therefore the charging current is supplied to the base of the composite emitter follower. Both transistors open. In the emitter circuit of the transistor VT2, the LED is turned on, which is located inside the optothyristor. The LED activates the turn on of the thyristor. The lamp lights up.

After the time, determined by the values of the capacitance of the capacitor C1 and the resistance of the resistor R2, the transistors are closed. The light goes out. The light is switched on again by pressing the SB button a second time. The capacitor is discharging. The charge current passing through it opens the transistors again, and the optothyristor opens behind them. The light comes on again.

For ease of use, for example, in a long room there can be two or more control buttons SB.

For long-term illumination of the room, the standard SA switch is used, as usual.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Convertible necklace headset from Samsung 08.03.2016

The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has published another Samsung patent application for development in the field of mobile electronics.

The document is titled "Wearable Electronic Device". Behind this common name is an audio headset, made in the form of a necklace to be worn around the neck.

The design of the gadget assumes the presence of submersible type headphones. As planned by Samsung, owners will be able to use the device in several modes. In particular, it talks about the standard headset mode for making phone calls and the headphone mode for listening to music.

Power will be provided by an integrated rechargeable battery. The device can receive a voice recognition system: this will allow the owners to give audio commands.

The illustrations accompanying the patent application indicate the presence of a built-in vibration motor for signaling various events. Probably, the device will receive a flash module for storing musical compositions.
