ENCYCLOPEDIA OF RADIO ELECTRONICS AND ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING On the power supply of electric lamps through a diode. Encyclopedia of radio electronics and electrical engineering Encyclopedia of radio electronics and electrical engineering / Lighting Recently, authors have increasingly opposed the use of a diode in the power circuit of incandescent lamps. The arguments are different - from saving energy [1] to maintaining health [2]. Yes, LED lamps flicker, you can see it. But to illuminate the premises, it is possible to propose a scheme for switching on two lamps in one ceiling (Fig. 1). According to my observations, glasses are worn mainly by those people who love bright artificial light and set unnaturally high brightness on their TV screens. Perhaps this is not a cause, but a consequence, I will not insist, but the cooling of the metal occurs non-linearly (Fig. 2), and the spiral temperature exits from the visible zone more rapidly than from the infrared radiation zone. Increasing the efficiency of the lamp by increasing the temperature leads to a reduction in the operating time. I think that if the light bulbs have an efficiency of not 10%, but 9%, then this is not as important as the regular replacement of lamps and the hassle about it that have already become habitual. I do not argue, when they talk about saving light bulbs, electricity and people's health, complex approaches are important, which are seen in [1,2]. But if we study the problems of economy more closely, then the true cause of our troubles becomes clear. It is not the long-suffering diode that is to blame for everything, but our total ignorance in matters of the reasonable use of electricity. It is possible to achieve threefold energy savings in lighting by localization (using local lighting, for example, table lamps), as well as using fluorescent lamps with a large afterglow of the phosphor, as has long been done abroad. The point is that the heat of the light bulb does not disappear anywhere. And it is used ... for heating. That's right, 90% of the energy consumed by incandescent lamps is released as infrared radiation, heat. In [1], this heat is considered to be lost. But we use artificial light mainly in the cold seasons. At this time, houses have to be heated, and light bulbs just do their bit. We do not feel this, because we do not have heat meters in our homes (many do not even know what it is). In summer, saving on lighting is even easier, you have to go to bed and wake up with the sun, and that's all, and no energy-saving technologies. Is there a savings when using a diode? I will answer: “Yes, and what else!” American experts say that the use of a diode prolongs the life of a light bulb by 100 times, and many have already seen this. In addition, in many cases, lamps of 60 or 100 W are simply not needed, so they try buy a lamp for 15-25 watts, and its flimsy spiral quickly burns out or simply breaks. The price of some of our bulbs already exceeds the cost of electricity that they manage to use up in their short life. Therefore, it makes sense to use a more powerful light bulb, feeding it through a diode. thyristor power regulators also prolongs the life of light bulbs. Therefore, I consider it advisable not to waste time and paper on fighting diodes and thyristor power regulators.
