IR - remote control is currently used in everyday life very widely. Other schemes suggest using an infrared sensor in the alarm system. However, such systems require a line of sight between the IR transmitter and the receiver, and the range of the optical communication line does not exceed 5...8 meters. How to significantly increase this distance is described in this article.

The principle of information relaying to increase the transmission range has long been widely used in radio engineering. At the same time, it does not matter in what form the information is presented and what are the methods of its transmission. Each of them has its advantages and disadvantages and is selected depending on the goals, technical and economic feasibility.

As noted in the preamble of this article, infrared radiation is now very widely used in remote control and monitoring systems. All remote control systems for mass household equipment (TVs, indoor air conditioning systems, security systems) have IR control. This is due to the possibility of secrecy of information transmission, the absence of interference from these systems to other equipment and the noise immunity of the systems themselves. Many types of IR photodetectors have been mass-produced for a long time, and their prices are constantly decreasing. So, the TSOP1738 type photodetector and similar ones are now widely used. The photodetector requires a +5V source to power it. There are photodetectors rated for 3,3V, but they are less common.

The scheme of the IR "Extension" is shown in the figure.

The signal from the photodetector through the resistor R1 is fed to the base of the transistor T2. The collector of this transistor is connected to a load resistor R3 and the input R of timer IC1 type NE555. If the photodiode of the integrated photodetector TSOP1738 is irradiated with IR radiation from an external source, then zero potential appears at the output of the photodetector (pin 2). Accordingly, the transistor T2 is turned off, and the potential of the power supply of the +12 V circuit through the resistor R3 is fed to the input R of the timer IC1. The timer is authorized to operate. In this circuit, it is included as a generator. The generation frequency is determined mainly by the values of C3, R4, P1. By adjusting the tuning resistance P1, you can select a frequency in the range of 36 ... 48 kHz. As a rule, most TSOP1738 photodetectors have the highest sensitivity at 38 kHz.

The output of IC1 from pin 3 is fed through resistor R5 to the base of transistor T1. Its emitter load is a pair of IR emitting LEDs LD2, LD3 and an indication LED LD1. Resistors R7 and R8 are ballast and limit the current of the LEDs.

The supply voltage of the photodetector +5 V is removed from the zener diode D1. Capacitor C2 is a blocking capacitor in the power supply circuit of the photodetector.

In [1], it is recommended to use a capacitor C3 with a small TKE. Of the domestic types, it is desirable to use KSO-1.

By adjusting the tuning resistance P1, you can achieve the highest sensitivity of the receiving part of the device, which will also provide the greatest communication range in the IR range.

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Major risk factor for gambling addiction 07.05.2024

Computer games are becoming an increasingly popular form of entertainment among teenagers, but the associated risk of gaming addiction remains a significant problem. American scientists conducted a study to determine the main factors contributing to this addiction and offer recommendations for its prevention. Over the course of six years, 385 teenagers were followed to find out what factors may predispose them to gambling addiction. The results showed that 90% of study participants were not at risk of addiction, while 10% became gambling addicts. It turned out that the key factor in the onset of gambling addiction is a low level of prosocial behavior. Teenagers with a low level of prosocial behavior do not show interest in the help and support of others, which can lead to a loss of contact with the real world and a deepening dependence on virtual reality offered by computer games. Based on these results, scientists ... >>

Traffic noise delays the growth of chicks 06.05.2024

The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. Reduced chances of reproduction and decreased fertility indicate the long-term effects that traffic noise has on wildlife. The study results highlight the need ... >>

The danger of permafrost 07.03.2018

The process of thawing permafrost releases carbon from the soil into the atmosphere, which can adversely affect climate change on the planet, a team of scientists from the Netherlands and the UK found out.

Scientists analyzed the content of the substance in the waters of the northwestern part of Canada in the summer, when the permafrost thaws. They found in lakes and rivers an increased content of "ancient" carbon, as well as carbon dioxide. Gases can be contained in the remains of plants that are in frozen soil.

Analyzing the carbon content of Canadian Arctic waters has been complicated by the fact that scientists do not yet know how much gas should be emitted into the atmosphere without adjusting for climate change. At the same time, it is important to pay attention to the fact that the water column can contain both "ancient" and carbon that has recently entered the permafrost.

Despite the fact that such studies require further work and analysis, scientists emphasize that the data obtained are quite alarming and indicate the negative impact of such processes on the rate of global warming.
