The device is designed to automatically maintain the water level within the specified limits. Such a regulator is very convenient for controlling an electric pump that pumps groundwater from basements and other underground spaces.

In the basement, in the deepest place, a metal tank is dug in and two level sensors are mounted in it: one is lowered almost to the bottom, the second is installed near the upper edge of the tank. The tank and sensors are connected to the electronic unit (see diagram).

Thyristor water level controller

The top of the tank is covered with a grate. Ground water, accumulating in the tank, after a while will reach the lower end of the sensor E1. At this moment, an opening voltage will appear on the control electrode of the trinistor VS1, it will open and relay K1 will operate. With contacts K1.1, it will connect a second sensor E1 in parallel with sensor E2. With contacts K1.2 (not shown in the diagram), the relay will turn on the pump motor, which will start pumping water from the tank.

After some time, the water level will drop below the E2 sensor and the opening voltage from the control electrode of the trinistor will be removed. After that, at the next moment of transition through the "zero" of the mains voltage, the trinistor will close, turning off the pump. This is followed by a slow accumulation of water to the level of E1 - and the cycle repeats.

The sensors are plates made of strip stainless steel 2 mm thick, mounted on a holder made of insulating material with a low degree of moisture absorption (ebonite, polyethylene, fluoroplastic, rubber, etc.). The tank is also desirable to be made of stainless steel.

Relay K1 - RES9, passport RS4.524.203 (or another for a suitable response voltage, preferably with more powerful contacts). Transformer T1 - any, with a power of 5 ... 8 W with a secondary winding voltage of 15 V.

The described regulator can be used for various purposes in the national economy, it is only important that the working fluid is electrically conductive.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Elephant speaking 07.06.2006

In the reserves of Kenya and South Africa, elephants began to distribute cell phones.

A cheap model phone in a waterproof case is hung around the elephant's neck. Every hour the device sends a signal by which it is possible to determine where its carrier is located.

Thanks to this, the cost of tracking animals has decreased by 60%, and even if you are on another continent, you can find out via the Internet where this particular individual is.
