Three-phase asynchronous electric motors with a squirrel-cage rotor are usually connected to a single-phase network according to the circuit shown in Fig. 1. Calculation shows, and practice confirms, that even with the optimal choice of the capacity of the phase-shifting capacitor C1, the torque on the shaft of a motor connected in this way does not exceed 35% of the nominal one.

Method of connecting a three-phase motor to a single-phase network

This is explained by the fact that the current flowing through winding III of the motor is shifted in phase relative to the currents in windings I and II in such a way that in the total magnetic field of the stator, in addition to the component rotating the rotor in the desired direction, another one is formed, rotating in the other direction . It slows down the rotor, reducing the torque on the shaft and wasting its energy on heating the wires and magnetic circuit of the motor.

By disconnecting winding III (Fig. 2), it is possible to increase the torque to 41% of the nominal one.

It increases even more, to 58%, if you reconnect this winding, changing the direction of the current in it (Fig. 3). The effect is achieved not only by changing the direction of rotation of the “harmful” component of the magnetic field. There is mutual compensation of the component fields created by windings II and III, which coincide in direction with the field of winding I and therefore do not participate in the rotation of the rotor. It has been experimentally established that the use of two phase-shifting capacitors also facilitates engine starting.

The capacitances of capacitors C1 and C2 must be the same. They are calculated using the well-known formula C = 2800*Iph/i, where Iph is the rated phase current of the electric motor, A; U=220 V. Capacitors MBGO, MBGP, MBGT, K42-4 are suitable for a constant operating voltage of at least 600 V or MBGCh, K42-19 for an alternating voltage of at least 250 V. The correct choice of capacitors can be checked by measuring the voltages at each of the three motor windings under load. They should be approximately equal.

The equality of voltages on windings II and III of the electric motor makes it possible to connect them back-to-back, as shown in Fig. 3 dashed line. In this case, capacitors C1 and C2 are replaced with one of double capacity.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

First 32-bit ZigBee controllers 27.07.2008

Jennie has implemented a ZigBee PRO stack for its JN32 single-chip 5139-bit wireless controller. The solution provides for two applications: as a standalone embedded processor and as a coprocessor. It is expected that this will provide designers with additional flexibility in the choice of means.

Further reduce design time by using Jennie's off-the-shelf RF modules that are FCC and ETSI certified. Working as a standalone processor, JN5139 provides ZigBee PRO support and user application execution. As a coprocessor, the JN5139 allows you to add ZigBee PRO functionality to existing projects. The JN5139 features, in addition to ZigBee PRO support, a large amount of internal memory and advanced power management tools to minimize power consumption.

The microcontroller is configured with 192 kB of ROM for IEEE802.15.4 MAC and 96 kB of RAM for applications. In addition, it includes UART, SPI and PC interfaces, general purpose input/output (GPIO) lines, timers, 12-bit analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters, comparators.

The picture is completed by a built-in 2,4 GHz transceiver that complies with the IEEE802.15.4 specification, providing a communication range of 30 ... 50 m, and a means of encryption using the AES algorithm (128 bits). It is noteworthy that the total current consumption in sleep mode does not exceed 5 μA.
