Residual current device can be defined as a high-speed protective switch that responds to differential current in conductors that supply electricity to the protected electrical installation.

The principle of operation of an RCD of a differential type is based on the use of an electromagnetic vector current adder - a differential current transformer.

The RCD is designed to protect against electric shock to a person or the occurrence of a fire due to creeping discharge currents during leakage to earth.

The devices are used in low-voltage electrical networks for domestic and industrial use (220/380V).

The principle of operation of the residual current device that reacts to the leakage current is explained in the drawing

The principle of operation of the RCD
Rice. 1. Kinematic scheme, the principle of operation of the RCD

As long as there is no leakage, i.e. there is no breakdown or damage to the insulation of the electrical receiver or there is no direct contact of a person with live parts.

The currents in the forward and reverse (phase-zero) load conductors are equal and induce in magnetic core (1) RCD current transformer equal but opposite magnetic fluxes, resulting in current I2 in the secondary winding is zero and does not trigger the sensitive element - magnetoelectric latch (2)

When a leak occurs Iut - for example, when a person touches a phase conductor, the balance of currents and magnetic fluxes is disturbed, an unbalance current appears in the secondary winding I2 which triggers magnetoelectric latch (2), which in turn affects release mechanism with contact system (3)

The electromechanical RCD system is designed to operate at certain leakage current values: 10, 30, 300 mA

To carry out periodic monitoring of the RCD performance, a testing circuit is provided. By pressing the button "Test"A tripping differential current is artificially created. The operation of the RCD means that it is generally in good order.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Written on nails 11.07.2006

The ancient Romans used the following trick to convey secret messages: they shaved the head of a slave, wrote a text on the skin and allowed the hair to grow, after which the slave was sent to the addressee. Since Roman slaves did not have the habit of washing their hair, the recipient again shaved the secret bearer (who himself did not know the contents of the letter) and read what was written.

Something similar is offered by Japanese physicists from the University of Togushima Island. They record with a pulsed laser up to 800 kilobytes of information (this is the volume of a brochure of 150 pages) on a human nail, filling the nail with dots with a diameter of 3 micrometers with intervals between rows of dots of 1 micrometers. The inscription is almost invisible, especially if you cover the nail with varnish.

To read, the varnish must be washed off and put your finger under a fluorescent microscope.
