Sleepless night adds fat

Researchers from the University of Uppsala and the Karolinska Institute argue that even one sleepless night is enough for our body to have, let's say, the conditions for the appearance of excess weight. The experiment involved fifteen young people, averaging 22 years of age, without any sleep problems. They came to the laboratory for two nights, and either slept as usual, or spent the night (8,5 hours) without sleep - the light was on in their room, and they themselves, although they were in beds, did not fall asleep.

The participants of the experiment were divided into two groups: the first group slept both nights, and the second group slept only one night, and the second did not sleep; two weeks later, everyone came back to the laboratory and everything was repeated, only now the groups changed places - all this was done in order to exclude the possible influence of individual characteristics on the results of the experiment.

Before and after each night, blood samples were taken from everyone, as well as fat and muscle tissue. It turned out that those who did not sleep at night, in fat and muscles, the activity of genes and proteins related to cell division and metabolism changed. In particular, those who did not sleep activated metabolic reactions that help store fat; at the same time, they had fewer proteins that are responsible for muscle growth and repair. In addition, the genes associated with inflammation, obesity, and type XNUMX diabetes began to work differently (in particular, the muscles began to absorb glucose worse, and we know that when cells become insensitive to glucose, this is the first harbinger of diabetes).

Scientists believe that the described molecular changes begin with hormones - lack of sleep is known to affect the level of stress cortisol, testosterone and growth hormone, but hormones are already making muscles weaker and preparing to strengthen adipose tissue. It is important that only one sleepless night was enough for all this.

We are talking about a virtual dashboard - a similar solution is already used in many other cars, in particular, in Audi and Volkswagen models.

In the case of the Skoda Karoq digital panel, four modes will be available to the driver: "classic", "digital", "info profile" and "minimalistic". The motorist will be able to determine what type of information will be placed in the selected area of the dashboard, as well as adjust the size of the blocks.

The classic mode involves the display on the sides of the display of the speedometer and tachometer, stylized as analog instruments. The area between them can be customized - for example, the current playlist or a zoomable map of the navigation system can be displayed here.

The digital version assumes that the entire width of the display is used to display information: it can be, say, an entertainment system screen or a navigation map. At the same time, in the upper and lower parts there is room for digital devices showing speed, recommendations for choosing a gear, etc.

An info profile is an option that displays, for example, a map in the central part of the screen, leaving room for blocks on the left, top and right, which can be configured individually. The current speed, navigation system icons, gear indicator, traffic sign recognition data and other information can be displayed here.

Finally, the minimalistic mode displays two large blocks of selected information - say, the current speed or range of the car. In addition, the selected basic information is displayed at the top and bottom of the screen.
