The RA3AO HF transceiver described in [1], which in its main parameters is not inferior to high-class foreign-made transceivers, does not have such a high service required when working on busy sections of the KB bands.

One of the most important nodes is a device that allows you to smoothly narrow the bandwidth of the transceiver's receiving path while maintaining high path selectivity (VBT). To do this, a device is introduced into the IF path of the transceiver, the functional diagram of which is shown in Fig. 1, which is a frequency converter of the IF transceiver to a lower one, followed by filtering with an electromechanical filter and further transfer to the frequency of the main IF.

The converter stand generator shifts the frequency response of the EMF relative to the bandwidth of the quartz filter of the receiving path, narrowing the total bandwidth of the receiving path of the transceiver, without shifting the frequency of the received station, from above or below (Fig. 2) [2].

A diagram of such a device is shown in Fig. 3 and contains two balanced mixers, a quartz oscillator with a frequency shift of a quartz resonator. The device is assembled on a printed circuit board with dimensions of 120x70 mm from one-sided textolite.

Transformers T1 - T4 are wound on ring magnetic cores K12, 600NN and contain 3x9 turns of twisted wire PEV 0,1 ... 0,2. An electromechanical filter of the EMF-DP-3.1N type, but any one can be used, with any passband and sideband, but preferably not wider than 3,5 kHz, since a large non-working zone will appear when the stand generator is rebuilt.

Resistors R1 and R7 type SP4-1. Quartz resonator ZQ1 in B-1 case.

The device can be used in other transceivers and receivers (with the appropriate replacement of the quartz).

The place of inclusion is in the IF path, after the main selection filter.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Seagate RISC-V Processors 10.12.2020

Seagate Technology announced the development of two processors based on the open RISC-V instruction set architecture (ISA). This is the first announcement of the results of several years of cooperation between Seagate and RISC-V International.

One of the processors is optimized in terms of performance, and the other is optimized in terms of the minimum die area. The high-performance processor has already been manufactured and tested in hard disk drives. The area-optimized version has been designed and is in the manufacturing stage.

Seagate estimates that a high-performance processor outperforms critical real-time hard drive workloads by up to three times over existing solutions. In particular, this opens the way to more accurate head positioning through the implementation of advanced servo control algorithms.

The area-optimized processor boasts a highly configurable microarchitecture and feature set, as well as low power consumption. It is designed to take on ancillary or background workloads, including security-sensitive edge computing operations such as next-generation cryptography. By the way, the openness of the architecture and the presence of security features in RISC-V are named among the advantages of both new processors.

Another advantage is the ability to move data processing to the edge, that is, the implementation of the concept of using "computing storage", in which data processing is carried out near the place of their storage. As stated, this approach allows you to radically change the way data is analyzed, accelerating it by several orders of magnitude. It is critical to the work of scientific communities with the need to process huge amounts of data.
