Often, to work in the range of electrical oscillations of sound frequencies, it is necessary to select the same capacitors. These are various balanced or bridge circuits, and identical (in terms of electrical parameters) channels of stereo or quad amplifiers ...

In the simplest version, the selection of capacities can be carried out by connecting the "common" wires of the avometer (tester) and the sound generator to each other. Then the investigated capacitor should be connected between the "phase" wires. The avometer must be prepared for measuring alternating voltage in the range of 0,1-1 V. The output parameters of the ZG should be set so that the readings of the dial indicator fall on 0,4-0,7 V (in the named section, the scale is more linear, and the accuracy measurements above).

When everything is prepared, by replacing the capacitors in the measuring circuit and tracking the readings of the avometer (and they should be identical with equal capacitances), the equality of the capacitances of the tested capacitors or their difference is determined: with a smaller capacitance of the capacitor, the deviation of the instrument arrow will be smaller and vice versa. In the event of a break in the capacitor, the avometer will not show any voltage, and in the event of a short circuit (or a strong difference in capacitance upwards), the arrow of the device will go off scale.

Pointer avometers, as a rule, have an extended area of work in the frequency plan at the lower limits and are applicable for such measurements. The accuracy of the selection of identical capacities will be affected by the stability of the frequency and output voltage of the sound generator, the accuracy of setting the arrow of the avometer to the risks of one of its scales (and it is not at all necessary that the AC voltage scale be used for this). You can try to use a digital multimeter as an indicator (avometer). If it turns out that it is capable of operating at low AC voltages and elevated (relative to "industrial" 50 Hz) frequencies, then the accuracy of capacitance selection with it will even increase.

Selection of capacitors of the same capacity
Accuracy in the selection of capacitors of the same capacity is guaranteed by the identity of the corresponding readings of the avometer and sound generator

The swaying of the arrow of the device may indicate instability of the output voltage of the sound generator or modulation of its signal by voltages of infra-low frequencies, both in amplitude and in frequency. The manifestation of "flickering" of the controlled capacitance, that is, its chaotic change in time, is also not excluded. Of course, the use of such capacitors in critical circuits is not recommended.

If it really "presses" and it will be necessary under the same "hardware conditions" to more accurately measure the capacitance, then it can be carried out using reference capacitors and a calibration table of the avometer scale. And for changing the measurement ranges, it turns out to be quite acceptable here "every decade" switching the frequency of the signal produced by the sound generator.

The stability requirements for Fout and Uout of the generator remain valid. The capacitance measurement limits depend on the parameters of the sound generator itself (output voltage and frequency), as well as on the parasitic capacitances of the connecting wires and are possible at frequencies up to 15-30 kHz.

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

Primium Seneca keyboard 05.05.2024

Keyboards are an integral part of our daily computer work. However, one of the main problems that users face is noise, especially in the case of premium models. But with the new Seneca keyboard from Norbauer & Co, that may change. Seneca is not just a keyboard, it is the result of five years of development work to create the ideal device. Every aspect of this keyboard, from acoustic properties to mechanical characteristics, has been carefully considered and balanced. One of the key features of Seneca is its silent stabilizers, which solve the noise problem common to many keyboards. In addition, the keyboard supports various key widths, making it convenient for any user. Although Seneca is not yet available for purchase, it is scheduled for release in late summer. Norbauer & Co's Seneca represents new standards in keyboard design. Her ... >>

The world's tallest astronomical observatory opened 04.05.2024

Exploring space and its mysteries is a task that attracts the attention of astronomers from all over the world. In the fresh air of the high mountains, far from city light pollution, the stars and planets reveal their secrets with greater clarity. A new page is opening in the history of astronomy with the opening of the world's highest astronomical observatory - the Atacama Observatory of the University of Tokyo. The Atacama Observatory, located at an altitude of 5640 meters above sea level, opens up new opportunities for astronomers in the study of space. This site has become the highest location for a ground-based telescope, providing researchers with a unique tool for studying infrared waves in the Universe. Although the high altitude location provides clearer skies and less interference from the atmosphere, building an observatory on a high mountain poses enormous difficulties and challenges. However, despite the difficulties, the new observatory opens up broad research prospects for astronomers. ... >>

The oldest bacteria on earth 14.09.2016

Australian geologists led by Allen Nutman (Allen Nutman) discovered in Greenland stromatolites - fossils of cyanobacteria - which today are the oldest traces of life on Earth.

A layer of snow melted in Greenland revealed fossils several centimeters in size, which are obviously traces of bacteria that lived on Earth 3,7 billion years ago, that is, from a geological point of view, "shortly" after the appearance of the planet, which occurred approximately 4,5 billion years ago.

This finding is indicative of how early life began on Earth and is consistent with previous studies that have also dated the origin of life to about 4 billion years ago.

The Scientific Russia portal has repeatedly written about what hypotheses scientists express about the origin of life on our planet. Thus, it was suggested that strong solar activity contributed to the emergence of life, and that life was brought to Earth from Mars. Perhaps the discovery of traces of ancient bacteria will help scientists figure out the details of the development of life.
