In Germany, serial production of high-power wind power generators has been launched.

The Enercon E-66 model has a three-blade rotor with a diameter of 66 meters, its power is 1,8 megawatts. In the fall of 2002, a prototype of an even more powerful installation, the E-112, was mounted near Magdeburg, the serial production of which is planned after testing, if they are successful.

Each rotor blade of this wind turbine is 52 meters long and weighs about 20 tons. The gondola weighing 500 tons is mounted on a tower 120 meters high - higher than many TV towers. The power of the E-112 is 4,5 megawatts.

A total of 2002 wind turbines with a total capacity of over 13 megawatts were operating in Germany at the end of 759. The country ranks first in the world in the use of wind energy.

A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. Statins are prescribed for those who have high levels of "bad" cholesterol, that is, low-density lipoproteins, which increase the risk of atherosclerosis. Statins have a number of side effects, but sometimes unexpected advantages are also found: two years ago we wrote that they suppress COVID-19, and just two or three months ago we said that statins prevent certain malignant tumors from metastasizing.

Oxford researchers have discovered another unreported bonus that statins may have - they protect against depression to some extent. The authors of the work studied the psychological state of more than two thousand people for almost a year. They assessed their memory and emotional background, checked how they react to rewards and how well they recognize emotions on other people's faces. At the same time, the majority of study participants did not take any drugs, 4% took only statins, another 6% - drugs for high blood pressure, and another 5% - both statins and drugs for pressure together.

One of the signs of depression is an internal bias in negative emotions; for example, in the faces of people, a person in a near-depressive state tends to see fear or anger. It turned out that statins suppress negative emotional mood: those who took statins were less willing to see fear and anger on their faces, preferring to attribute some positive emotions to the same faces. Those who took drugs for pressure looked at the world (more precisely, at other people's photos) more gloomily.

Researchers believe that anti-inflammatory mechanisms may be at work here: by lowering cholesterol levels, statins indirectly calm inflammation. And the background sluggish inflammation, as we have repeatedly said, can increase the risk of neuropsychiatric disorders, including depression.
