One of the reasons for the popularity of the double square antenna is the ability to create a multi-band system. On each band, such an antenna has a good diagram, high gain and an SWR close to one. Most often, radio amateurs use an antenna assembled on eight spacers made of insulating material (radio amateurs call this design a "spider").

The operation of such antennas in areas of the USSR with strong winds showed their unreliability. "Double squares" behave much more reliably, having a bearing boom-traverse, on which elements in the form of wire frames are attached. Passive frames are configured using short-circuited loops. But this antenna has a significant drawback: the distance between the active frames and reflectors is the same on all bands, and the maximum gain is achievable only on one of the bands.

Antennas of radio station UA1DJ. Design

The antenna described below does not have this drawback. The "double square" antenna for the 14 MHz band is taken as the basis, and for the 21 and 28 MHz bands it is a three-element antenna. The antenna (Fig. 1) is made on a boom, the frames are located. downward angle. "Double square" for the 14 MHz band has an optimal distance between the elements - 0,2 lambda, which guarantees the maximum gain. All three reflectors are located in the same plane (B), the director frames for 21 and 28 MHz are in the same plane with the active frame for the 14 MHz band (A), and the active frames for the 21 and 28 MHz bands are on independent struts in the middle part of the boom ( B). The distance AB is 165, BV - 260 cm. The remaining dimensions of the antenna are given in Table. one.
Range, MHz Frame side length A, cm Frame train length A, cm Frame side length B, cm Frame side length B, cm Frame train length B, cm
14 535 - - 540 150
21 345 80 355 360 100
28 245 60 265 270 70

Vertical spacers can be made of any material (including metal pipes), horizontal spacers can be made of insulating material (wood, bamboo, synthetics), or metal pipes broken by insulating inserts. To feed the antennas at 14 and 28 MHz, feeders made of coaxial cable with a wave impedance of 75 ohms are used, and at 21 MHz - 52 ohms. Feeders are included in the breaks in the lower corners of the active frames. Balancing is not applied in this case. Even better results can be obtained

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Big Data for football players 18.03.2014

Analytical technologies are now used in many areas of life, including sports. SAP offered the German national football team an analysis system based on its SAP HANA product.

At CeBIT, the company showed how a similar system already implemented at the German football club Hoffenheim (TSG 1988 Hoffenheim) works. During training, players wear sensors that track their movements around the field, as well as other characteristics and parameters of the game. All information is analyzed in real time.

As a result, it is possible to show, for example, which corner of the goal a particular player prefers to hit, to predict the results of matches. But the main purpose of using analytics is to improve the game of the team as a whole.
