The spiral antenna is intended for installation on personal radio stations in a portable version. Compared to a whip telescopic antenna, a spiral antenna has a smaller length, which creates undeniable advantages when using a radio station in a city. Despite its small dimensions, this antenna has great flexibility without breaking the electrical contact, which cannot be said about the telescopic antenna, which often loses inter-knee contact and requires more careful handling. But, most importantly, the efficiency of the "spiral" type antenna in terms of field strength is 1,2 - 1,5 times higher than the whip antenna with a typical size of 525 mm.

The results of experimental data for two communication options - with whip and helical antennas - show clear advantages of the latter. So, with a transmitter output power of 0,2 W and a receiver sensitivity of 1,5 - 2,0 μV, the range of reliable communication between radio stations of the same type in a city with spiral antennas was 1,4 km, which is 0,5 km more than with whip antennas. .

The material of the antenna blank is polyethylene or any other used for the production of high-frequency cables. On fig. 1 shows the dimensions and design of such a workpiece.

Spiral antenna for portable radios

The molding of a threaded connection in the simplest case is carried out by heating the workpiece in the connector body of the SR-50-74FV type.

The placement of the windings on the workpiece is shown in fig. 2. Winding I contains 80 turns of wire wound turn to turn over a section 34 mm long. Winding II contains 29 turns of wire, spaced evenly along the winding length of 150 mm. Both windings are made with PEV-2 wire 0,4 mm. The end of the winding is fixed by fusing the wire into polyethylene.

Tuning the antenna into resonance is carried out by winding or winding one or two turns of wire from the side of the connector. Resonance is achieved at maximum transmitter power output, which is recorded by a field strength device or any spectrum analyzer at a distance of at least 2 meters. After tuning, the antenna must be placed in a flexible waterproof casing.

The general view of the assembled antenna is shown in fig. 3.

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

Primium Seneca keyboard 05.05.2024

Keyboards are an integral part of our daily computer work. However, one of the main problems that users face is noise, especially in the case of premium models. But with the new Seneca keyboard from Norbauer & Co, that may change. Seneca is not just a keyboard, it is the result of five years of development work to create the ideal device. Every aspect of this keyboard, from acoustic properties to mechanical characteristics, has been carefully considered and balanced. One of the key features of Seneca is its silent stabilizers, which solve the noise problem common to many keyboards. In addition, the keyboard supports various key widths, making it convenient for any user. Although Seneca is not yet available for purchase, it is scheduled for release in late summer. Norbauer & Co's Seneca represents new standards in keyboard design. Her ... >>

The world's tallest astronomical observatory opened 04.05.2024

Exploring space and its mysteries is a task that attracts the attention of astronomers from all over the world. In the fresh air of the high mountains, far from city light pollution, the stars and planets reveal their secrets with greater clarity. A new page is opening in the history of astronomy with the opening of the world's highest astronomical observatory - the Atacama Observatory of the University of Tokyo. The Atacama Observatory, located at an altitude of 5640 meters above sea level, opens up new opportunities for astronomers in the study of space. This site has become the highest location for a ground-based telescope, providing researchers with a unique tool for studying infrared waves in the Universe. Although the high altitude location provides clearer skies and less interference from the atmosphere, building an observatory on a high mountain poses enormous difficulties and challenges. However, despite the difficulties, the new observatory opens up broad research prospects for astronomers. ... >>

Tiny Intel Curie Modules 19.03.2015

To create a finished device, it is enough to connect the battery, the necessary sensors and download the necessary microcode. The output will be a wearable or embedded device for solving simple tasks of monitoring the specified parameters. It can be a watch, a bracelet, a brooch or a piece of furniture.

In an interview with PC World, Intel New Devices team leader Mike Bell said that Curie button modules will ship in the second half of this year. The Intel Curie modules are 18mm diameter board. The board contains an Intel Quark SE microcontroller, 80 KB SRAM, 384 KB flash memory, a hub with an integrated DSP for connecting sensors, a 6-axis gyroscope and accelerometer, a Bluetooth LE module, and a power and charge controller.

The company plans two delivery options. For fast provisioning of commercial products, Intel will ship the Curie module on board as shown in the picture. To reduce the cost of the solution and to develop unique solutions, the company will supply only the Quark SE microcontroller with the minimum required piping.
