This device will help to check and repair devices, which work is based on the use of infrared (IR) region of the electromagnetic spectrum, - remote controls for household appliances, paper presence sensors in printers, copiers and facsimile machines. Being brought to the source of infrared rays not perceived by the human eye, it will give a signal about their presence.

The indicator scheme is shown in fig. one.

Infrared indicator

When irradiated with IR rays, the phototransistor BL1 sensitive to them opens. The current flowing through it in this case, after amplification by transistors VT1 -VT3, is enough to ignite the HL1 LED. The glow of the latter will testify to the operability of the tested source of IR radiation. If you point a working TV remote control at the indicator and press any command button, the HL1 LED will flash at the frequency of the emitted pulses. The IR radiation of the paper presence sensors is continuous, so the LED will be lit without blinking.

The voltage of 5 V to power the indicator can be obtained from the mains adapter. The current consumption is very small. If you want to make the device autonomous, you can power it from a battery of two to four galvanic cells or batteries, remembering to provide a switch. With the supply voltage reduced to 3 V, it may be necessary to replace the resistor R4 with another one, rated 100 ohms.

The drawing of the printed circuit board of the indicator is shown in fig. 2. It is placed in a case - packaging from Tick-Tak dragees. The packaging is transparent, so there is no need to drill holes in it for the LED and phototransistor.

Infrared indicator

An IR-sensitive phototransistor is carefully soldered out of a faulty computer mouse. Before installing it in the indicator, it is checked with an ohmmeter and, if necessary, the pin assignment is determined. With the correct polarity of connection to the device, the resistance of the collector-emitter section of a working phototransistor in the dark should be very large (more than 1 MΩ), and when illuminated with an ordinary incandescent lamp, it should decrease many times.

KT315B transistors can be replaced with any of the KT315, KT3102 series, and the AL307B LED can be replaced with another domestic or imported one of a suitable size and glow color.

The required sensitivity of the indicator is achieved by selecting the resistor R1. Do not set it too high - the device will react to normal daylight or electric light. A clear fixation of IR radiation at a distance of several centimeters from its source is sufficient.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Mobileye EyeQ4 single-chip system for semi-autonomous vehicles 16.03.2015

Mobileye, which specializes in the development of driver assistance systems using cameras, introduced the fourth generation of related single-chip systems - EyeQ4.

EyeQ4 brings together 15 years of experience in the development of specialized machine vision cores. In total, the EyeQ4 configuration includes 14 computing cores, 10 of which are specialized vector accelerators for processing visual information.
Mobileye EyeQ4 single-chip system

Each of the four EyeQ4 processor cores can execute four instruction streams. They will be accompanied by six Vector Microcode Processor (VMP) blocks already tested in the EyeQ2 and EyeQ3 models. EyeQ4 will have new hardware accelerators - Multithreaded Processing Cluster (MPC) and Programmable Macro Array (PMA) - two of each type.

In terms of versatility, MPC is superior to GPUs and OpenCL boosters, and in terms of efficiency it is superior to CPU. As for the PMA, these blocks are characterized by a high computational density, approaching pure hardware accelerators, significantly surpassing traditional digital signal processors, but retaining the ability to program. All EyeQ4 cores are fully programmable, which allows you to implement any algorithms, and using the most suitable core for each specific task, you can get high performance. If you try to numerically express the capabilities of the processor - its performance exceeds 2,5 TFLOPS with a power consumption of 3 watts.

EyeQ4 engineering samples are expected in the fourth quarter of 2015. The first full test suite, including applications for active safety and environmental simulation (using eight cameras), should be ready in the second quarter of 2016, and the company expects to roll out the serial release in early 2018.

EyeQ4 customers have already become interested. One major European manufacturer plans to use the new processor in its products starting in 2018, according to Mobileye. The EyeQ4 processor will be part of an expandable system using cameras. In its base configuration, the system will feature single-lens cameras for collision avoidance, while the top configuration will include triple-lens cameras to enable semi-autonomous driving. It is important that EyeQ4 supports the use of radar and laser scanners with cameras.
