An electric fence consisting of a single-wire line and a voltage conversion device can be temporarily used to fence off cattle grazing areas.

The single-wire line is made on metal racks. At the racks, one end is pointed, and the other end is threaded for screwing porcelain insulators. On, the insulators fix the wire stretched between the racks. The length of the line can reach 2000 m or more.

The voltage conversion device is assembled according to the diagram shown in the figure. The load of a widespread voltage converter, the main parts of which are transistors T1 and T2, transformer Tr1, battery B1, is the ignition coil KZ1. One end of the secondary winding of the coil is grounded, and the second, high-voltage, is connected to a single-wire line.

electric fence

Metal racks are made 120 cm long. A bracket is welded to the rack at a distance of 20 cm from the pointed end, which serves to press the rack with the foot into the ground. In the manufacture of a single-wire line, you can use steel wire used to knit bales of straw or hay.

All parts of the voltage converter are placed on a plate measuring 130x130 mm, made of insulating material (getinax, plywood, etc.). The plate is placed in a box where the battery and ignition coil are located.

In the voltage converter, transistors P201 and P217 can be used. For better cooling, they are placed on aluminum radiators with dimensions of 100x50x5 mm.

The converter transformer Tr1 is assembled using a sh12x12 or sh16x16 core. Winding 1 contains 14 turns with a tap from the middle of the PEL wire 0,7. It is first wound on the frame in two wires at once. Winding II has 60 turns tapped from the middle. It is made with PEL 1,0 wire. Winding III is wound last, containing 120 -130 turns of PEL 1,0 wire. There should be two or three layers of insulating paper between the windings.

The ignition coil can be from a car or motorcycle at 12 or 6 V.

The described electric fence has been working flawlessly for three seasons on the cultivated pasture of the Path to Communism collective farm in the Volgograd Region.

Editorial note. We asked to comment on the article about the electric fence Comrade. I. R. Viksna, Deputy Head of the Department of the Head Specialized Design Bureau for the complex of machines for cattle farms. Here is what he told us.

Electric fence, proposed by Comrade. A. Shilenko, has its advantages and disadvantages. Its advantages include the use of porcelain insulators, which have high insulating properties even in rainy weather (insulators have a so-called "dry zone"). The battery that powers the device is safe and easy to handle. Since the output impedance of the converter, determined by the resistance of the secondary winding of the ignition coil, is large, when an animal touches it, the output voltage will decrease from several thousand to 10-30 V.

The disadvantages of the fence include the use of uncoated steel wire, which increases its corrosion. It is better to use galvanized steel wire. The battery that powers the fence requires frequent charging, which increases the cost of the device. The electric fence converter is inefficient and has a low efficiency. If you increase the power output of the converter and reduce its output impedance, then the efficiency of the electric fence will increase, but such a fence can become dangerous for animals and humans. In this case, it is necessary to use a generator operating in a pulsed mode instead of a converter.

Therefore, the described electric fence is safe to handle and can be used for fencing small areas or for grazing horses, which are 10 times more sensitive to electric current than cattle. The electric fence can be temporarily used if it is not possible to purchase a mass-produced electric fence IE-200 through the local agricultural associations.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Mercedes-Benz luxury hybrid 20.09.2014

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the first luxury hybrid vehicle in its lineup. The German automaker does not intend to stop there and promises to release several hybrids at once, with the ability to recharge batteries from the home electrical network.

The Mercedes S550 Plug-in Hybrid is said to be the first luxury sedan on the market to combine the power of a V8 engine with the economy of a compact model. The novelty has a hybrid V6 engine with a total capacity of 436 hp, which allows the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5,2 seconds.

The hybrid modification of the flagship S-Class sedan of the new generation is equipped with an 85-kilowatt electric unit and a set of lithium-ion batteries with a capacity of 8,7 kWh, which are charged from a 230-volt household network in 4 hours. Charging takes half the time when you connect a compatible charger to a dedicated 400-volt outlet.

Mercedes-Benz is currently testing a wireless charging system that the company is developing with BMW. The device will allow owners of hybrids and electric vehicles to charge batteries without the use of wires.

The German developers paid special attention to the efficiency of the S550 Plug-in Hybrid, although the car is able to drive a little more than 30 km on electric traction. The 7-speed automatic transmission is closely linked to electronic systems that evaluate the traffic situation. The box settings change automatically based on the current location and speed of cars moving nearby.

The gas pedal in the premium sedan is complemented by tactile feedback. When there is an opportunity to save fuel (for example, on a slope), by removing the foot from the accelerator or loosening its pressure on it, the driver will feel the vibration impulses that the "smart" system will apply to the pedal. In the same way, the person behind the wheel will be notified when the internal combustion engine is switched off for electric motor driving.

The start of sales of the Mercedes S550 Plug-in Hybrid is expected in 2015. According to preliminary data, the cost of the car will exceed $100.

I would like to see this scheme with the addition of a device that switches the 220 V power supply to a 12 V battery in the absence of electricity and recharges the 12 V battery when a 220 V network appears, as well as an alarm system for breaking an electric fence. This is especially important at night. For developers.
