Among shortwave radio amateurs, the W3DZZ multi-band antenna (Fig. 1a) is widely used, the principle of operation of which is based on the use of stopper filters tuned to the middle frequency of the 7 MHz band; The capacitances and inductances of these plug filters must be carefully selected, as in the rest of the ranges. They shorten or lengthen the antenna to the desired number of half-waves. Nevertheless, you can achieve good W0DZZ performance on a maximum of three of the five amateur bands.

The proposed antenna uses, instead of plug filters, shorted segments of a two-wire line having an electrical length L/7 in the 4 MHz range (Fig. 1b). It is easy to see that the current propagation in the 7 MHz range along the shorted line segments corresponds to the current distribution along the antenna itself, i.e., the shorted segments can be bent in the direction of the arrows in Fig. 1b. Then the antenna will take the form shown in Fig. in. This version of the antenna has been successfully used on the UP2NV radio for several years. The dimensions in Fig. 1c are given in centimeters. In addition to the 3,5 and 7 MHz bands, the antenna should also work well in the 21 MHz band.

The antenna fabric is made of stranded wire with a diameter of 2 mm. In the case of using a thicker wire, it is necessary to slightly increase the distance between the wires in a two-wire line. The required distance between these wires is maintained by means of dielectric spacers. When installing the antenna, care must be taken to ensure that the two-wire part of the antenna does not overlap.

A coaxial cable is used as a feeder. If the antenna is suspended horizontally at a high height, then the cable should have a wave impedance of 75 ohms, and when installing the antenna in the form of an "Inverted Vee" it is desirable to use a 50 ohm cable. Sometimes when placing the antenna between the Houses, the feeder is located at an acute angle to the antenna. In this case, it is advisable to put rings on the feeder every 2-3 meters from high-frequency ferrite grades with a permeability of 50-150.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Car DVD players for Russian roads 17.01.2006

Mustek introduced the PL8 series of car DVD players.

The junior model PL8C70 is equipped with a 7-inch TFT LCD widescreen display, Dolby Digital decoder and is compatible with all DVD and CD formats, as well as Secure Digital /MultiMediaCard flash drives. PL8C70 also "understands" such formats as DivX, MPEG-4, MP3.

The PL8D70 is distinguished by the possibility of connecting a second display and a slightly different design than the PL8C70. Mustek PL8A90 and PL8B84 have significantly larger screen sizes (9 and 8 inches respectively) and a wide range of supported formats. Moreover, the new products have an anti-shock system that allows you to freely view videos even when driving on bumpy roads, of which there are plenty in our country.

The Mustek PL8A90 is currently priced at $415, the PL8C70 is $285, the PL8D70 is $160 and the PL8B84 will go on sale at the end of September for around $340.
