The described antenna can be useful for use in cities with dense buildings. It is a wire frame with a perimeter of two wavelengths. The proposed placement of the antenna is shown in Fig.1.

Antenna for 160m band with low suspension height

Since the directions of the current of the opposite ends of the loop are in antiphase, spurious upward radiation is significantly reduced. The radiation pattern in the vertical plane is shown in Fig. 2, and in the horizontal plane it does not have pronounced maxima and can be considered circular.

Antenna for 160m band with low suspension height

The bandwidth of the antenna is about 100 kHz in terms of SWR=2. The input impedance is 160 Ohm at a suspension height of 30 meters (typical 9-storey buildings) and decreases as the suspension height decreases. The calculated data for other suspension heights at a resonant frequency of 1,85 MHz are given in Table. 1.

Table 1

Height, m Perimeter, m Input resistance, Ohm
20 322,06 75
30 320,88 160
40 321,43 230
50 323,56 280

With a suspension height of 20 m to 50 m, the maximum radiation angle to the horizon in the radiation pattern changes slightly - from 48 to 40 degrees, respectively. The antenna was simulated and tested in the 2 m range and confirmed the calculated performance.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The cosmic wind stretched over 228 light-years 11.12.2018

Chilean astronomers have discovered a wind stretching from a quasar at a distance of 228 light years.

Quasars are one of the brightest objects in the universe. Scientists believe that in the center of the quasar is a particularly massive black hole, the matter around which produces particularly intense radiation.

It is believed that the quasar is the center of the nascent galaxy, and the wind emanating from it affects the formation of the galaxy in the future. If the gas is not carried too far, it will be pulled back by the massive black hole, and its material will become the basis for the formation of future stars. If the wind is powerful enough, it can carry matter far enough and the galaxy will perish for lack of building material.

Scientists have long tried to understand how far the plasma-gas wind can stretch from quasars and how much energy it can carry. This time, the scientists received very conflicting information, the extent of the wind turned out to be very large, and the transferred energy was much lower than expected.
