Radio amateur V.Voliy (UA10DL) spoke about the design of the antenna brought to the attention of the reader on the air about 15-6 years ago, for which the author is very grateful to him. The antenna is still working and due to the absence of the need for switching and adjustment when switching from range to range, it is often used as a surveillance or backup antenna. Measured SWR values at frequencies of 1,9 MHz - 1,9; 3,6MHz-1,3; 7,05MHz-1,2; 14,1MHz-1,4; 21,2MHz-1,7; 28,6-1,6.

Structurally, the antenna is an ordinary dipole (see Fig.) with a beam length of 20,5 m, which is powered by a coaxial cable with a wave impedance of 50 or 75 ohms.

As a matching device, a two-wire line with a wave impedance of 300 (CATV cable) 17,7 m long and a balancing broadband transformer 1: 4 (T) is used.

The transformer is wound on a ferrite ring with a permeability of 30-50 HF with an outer diameter of 24 - 32 mm, depending on the power supplied to the antenna (a ring with a core cross section of 1 square centimeter is capable of transmitting about 500 W without damage). If one ring is not enough, then take two, three rings, folded together. Before winding, the ring (rings) is pre-wrapped with a heat-resistant insulating tape, for example, fluoroplastic, because. at maximum power, the ring can be heated up to 70 °C. Both windings of the transformer contain 9 ... 10 turns wound simultaneously by two pieces of PEV 0,8 ... 1,0 wire folded together or a stranded wire similar in cross section in fluoroplastic insulation (not afraid of heating). The windings are placed evenly around the circumference of the ring, and the desoldering is performed according to the diagram in the figure, where the dots mark the beginnings of the corresponding windings. The transformer is protected from moisture by wrapping it with insulating material and varnishing it.

The points of connection of the transformer to the two-wire line are located at a distance of 5,9 m from the junction of the line with the antenna canvas. The antenna fabric is made of 02 mm galvanized wire, and only because of this, the described multi-band dipole stood for such a long time in the difficult environmental conditions of Donbass.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

New alloys for cars 03.06.2005

The Iron Research Institute in Düsseldorf (Germany) has developed and tested new alloys for car bodies.

Particularly strong was steel with 15% manganese and additives of aluminum and silicon, 3% each. A rod made of such an alloy can be stretched by more than 50%, and it can withstand a stretch of 1100 megapascals, which is equivalent to the weight of ten elephants suspended from a rod with a section the size of a postage stamp. Conventional steel used in car bodies breaks already at 700 megapascals.

Another alloy, characterized by a high content of manganese - 25%, is less durable, but it is stretchable in length by 90% and quickly absorbs shock loads. It is especially good for use in the front of the body, which in a collision must fold like an accordion, absorbing impact energy.

According to the authors of the development, their alloys will find application in the German automotive industry in four years.
