Good printing inks must have the following properties:

  • the color of the paint should not change from the action of light and air;
  • the paint applied to the paper should dry quickly;
  • the ink should not penetrate too deep into the paper.

Printing inks are prepared on printing drying oils. The composition of printing inks depends on the purpose for which they are intended. For newspapers, and in general for printing works that must be quickly released from the printing house, a thinner ink is used than that which is used for printing books. The thickest paint goes for lithographic work. In the manufacture of printing inks, wood resin and soap are sometimes added to drying oils. Resin is added to drying oil when cooking oil, when the latter has already warmed up significantly. At 120 wt. hours of oil is 40-50 wt. hours of resin and 12-14 wt. hours of soap.

The purpose of adding soap is to make the type and printing machines easier to clean. Soap used for this purpose must be completely dry. For ordinary printing black inks, yellow resinous soap is used, and for higher color grades of inks, white soap in lard or fat is used. For black printing inks, lamp black is used, for colored inks, various mineral or varnish inks are used. All substances must be carefully ground and mixed so that an absolutely homogeneous paint is obtained.

Printing ink with an admixture of wood resin

  • Typographic drying oil 50 kg;
  • Wood resin 10 kg;
  • Lamp soot 12 kg;
  • Prussian blue 250 g;
  • Indigo 250 g;
  • Soap yellow 1 kg.

Grind all parts until a homogeneous mass is obtained.

Printing ink with an admixture of tar oil

10 kg of semi-burnt lamp black are ground on a stone board into a fine powder and gradually purified turpentine is added to it until a thick paste is obtained. Rub until the paste takes on a shiny appearance. Separately grind 10 kg of semi-burnt soot with tar oil until a paste of the same density is obtained. Mix both pastes together and add 2-3 kg of Parisian blue or other coloring matter. Everything is thoroughly mixed until a completely homogeneous paint is obtained. These inks are suitable for fine lithographic work, maps and art prints.

Black newspaper ink

  • Typographic drying oil 10 kg;
  • Soot 2-2,5 kg.

Regular printing ink (black)

  • Typographic drying oil 7 kg;
  • Soot 2,5 kg.

Black paint for illustrations

  • Typographic drying oil 8 kg;
  • Soot 2 kg;
  • Indigo 100 g;
  • Prussian blue 200 g.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

The computer was taught to distinguish male text from female 01.10.2003

Israeli computer scientists from the University of Bar-Ilan have created a program that, with a high probability, determines the gender of its creator from the English text.

566 different English-language essays were entered into a computer equipped with this program, from fiction to dry scientific works, each time reporting who wrote it - a man or a woman. In total, the computer read over 20 million words. As a result, the machine found 128 linguistic features characteristic of the authors of both sexes. This is the frequency of use of certain words and the features of the construction of phrases. Women use words like "for", "with" and "and" more often than men.

In addition, they prefer the present tense of verbs and use pronouns more often than men. Men are more likely to use numerals, the words "this", "such", "no" and the indefinite article. In general, in 80 percent of cases the program does not make mistakes, but in fiction the result is even better.

Of the 264 works of art offered to the machine, the gender of the author was determined incorrectly in only six cases, and in five of them the computer mistook a man for a woman and only in one of them was mistaken in the opposite direction. For 30 scientific articles written in a dry, formal language, the correctness of determining the gender of the author was 74 percent.
