Paints on soluble glass have many advantages over oil paints.

These paints are especially suitable for painting cement, lime and gypsum plaster. Mineral paints have different attitudes towards soluble glass: some of them, for example, lead white, combine with glass almost instantly, so it is impossible to cover with such paint. The same picture occurs with lime. Chalk is suitable for this purpose. You cannot paint over liquid glass with oil paints, since the oil is washed away by the soluble glass.

As paints to give the appropriate shade, you can use paints that are not afraid of alkalis.

yellow shade: chromium-barium salt, uranium oxide, ocher.

black tint: graphite, pipe black, bone black.

green shade: ultramarine green, chromium oxide green, cobalt green.

red shade: red iron paints (mummy, kolkotar).

brown shade: manganese oxide.

Lead and zinc white, sulfur-barium salt can be used only in small quantities immediately before use. The mixture of casein and soluble glass is prepared as follows: freshly pressed casein is ground with soluble glass into a homogeneous mass. The amount of soluble glass is approximately twice as much as casein. If dry casein is used, then it is first dissolved in sodium or potassium lye, after which soluble glass is added. In order to obtain more elastic paint, add a small amount of a mixture of liquid glass and soap. To achieve greater shine, use a solution of shellac in soluble glass.

Casein paints with soluble glass are especially suitable for painting damp areas. They usually dry within 48 hours. When dry, liquid glass and casein form plaster with lime and sand, as well as with the mineral parts of the paint - a very strong connection.

Blue

Casein-soluble glass 5 kg;
Ultramarine 3 kg.

Yellow

Casein-soluble glass 5 kg;
Ocher 6 kg.

Casein-soluble glass means a mixture consisting of 3 wt. hours of soluble glass and 1 wt. including casein.

Red

Casein-soluble glass 5 kg;
Iron oxides 4 kg.

Black

Casein-soluble glass 8 kg;
Bone black 3 kg.

Green

Casein-soluble glass 5 kg;
Chrome green 11 kg.

White

Casein-soluble glass 5 kg;
Zinc white 4 kg.

Brown

Casein-soluble glass 5 kg;
Brown manganese oxide 4 kg.

Grey

Casein-soluble glass 6 kg;
Zinc white 5 kg;
Soot 0,25 kg;
Ultramarine 0,5 kg.

Persistent good drying paint can be obtained like this:

10 wt. hours of soluble glass is heated under pressure with 25 wt. including casein, allow to cool; 0,2 wt is added to the resulting mass. h. carbon-magnesium salt, 0,1 wt. parts borax, 0,15 wt. parts zinc oxide, 0,3 wt. including sodium phosphorus salt and the required amount of dyes to give the appropriate shade. When used, the mixture is diluted with boiled water.
