Turpentine varnishes prepared by dissolving various resins in turpentine. The principle of making turpentine varnish, like all volatile varnishes in general, is simple, but in practice there are some difficulties. The preparation of a resin solution does not yet guarantee that the varnish is of good quality. When the solvent evaporates, the resin should form a uniform layer that adheres well to the surface to be varnished. Sdoy should be hard, elastic and have the required appearance (shiny, matte). varnish

Turpentine varnishes form a durable and beautiful coating, superior in strength to alcohol ones; the latter give a brittle layer, but in terms of drying speed they are superior to turpentine ones. In practice, very often, turpentine and alcohol varnishes are mixed to increase the drying speed and obtain durable coatings.

The dissolution of resins in turpentine is usually carried out in an appropriate container by shaking or stirring; light heat is often used. After complete dissolution, the varnish is filtered through a coarse cloth. Settling for these varnishes is not required.

Turpentine sandarac varnish is obtained by dissolving sandarac in turpentine with an admixture of mastic and light rosin.

Dammar varnishes obtained by dissolving dammar resin in turpentine; mastic varnish - by dissolving mastic in turpentine; asphalt varnish - by dissolving Syrian, American or other asphalts in turpentine.

Colorless dammar varnishes inferior in hardness and strength to copal varnishes. Dammar varnishes, however, are stronger and more transparent than mastic varnishes, which are mainly used as picture varnishes.

When working with turpentine, you need to be careful and work in well-ventilated rooms, as turpentine vapors are harmful to health.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

96-layer 3D TLC NAND memory 02.07.2017

Toshiba Memory Corporation announced the creation of a prototype 96-layer BiCS FLASH flash memory chip with a three-dimensional layout. Each cell of this memory stores three bits of information. Evaluation samples of 96-layer 3D TLC NAND flash memory chips with a density of 256 Gb should appear in the second half of the year, and the manufacturer expects to start serial production in 2018.

The new memory is suitable for consumer and enterprise SSDs, smartphones, tablets and memory cards.

The manufacturer plans to release 96-layer microcircuits with a density of 512 Gbit and the introduction of QLC technology, which allows storing four bits in each cell.

Compared to 64-layer BiCS FLASH memory, the specific storage density is increased by 40%. This allows more memory to be made from a single wafer and lower cost per bit.

The release of 96-layer BiCS FLASH memory is planned to be mastered at the Fab 5 factory, the Fab 2 factory opened about a year ago, and at the Fab 6 factory, which should start operating next summer.
