Pickling method of processing sheepskins consists in processing sheepskins or furs with a mixture of weak solutions of sulfuric acid and common salt. This method was especially often practiced during the war due to the high price of flour.

There is no fundamental difference between dressing with mineral acid and flour jelly.

At 100 wt. Part of water is taken from 1 to 2 weight. parts of sulfuric acid 66 °Be and from 5 to 10 wt. tsp table salt.

In the solution, the skins are from 1 to 6 hours, after which they are squeezed out and dried without washing. The remaining solution goes to the processing of new batches with the addition of fresh solution.

Sometimes, in order to remove residual sulfuric acid, which harms the hair, the skins are transferred for 1-2 hours to a solution of 800 g of sodium chloride and 100 to 120 g of bicarbonate of soda in a bucket of water.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Cause of acid rain found 02.09.2012

An international team of researchers led by the University of Colorado Boulder and the University of Helsinki has discovered a new chemical compound in the Earth's atmosphere. It reacts with sulfur dioxide and leads to the formation of sulfuric acid, which is known to have a significant impact on the planet's climate and human health.

The new compound, carbonyl oxide, comes from the reaction of ozone with olefins, which are a family of hydrocarbons with natural and man-made sources. Thus, a previously unknown chemical pathway for the formation of sulfuric acid has been found, which can lead to an increase in acid rain and a negative effect on the respiratory system of the human body.

Sulfuric acid plays an important role in the Earth's atmosphere, in particular, acid precipitation influences the formation of new aerosol particles that are critical to global climate and health. As a rule, the formation of sulfuric acid in the atmosphere occurs through the reaction between hydroxyl radicals, consisting of a hydrogen atom and an oxygen atom, with unpaired electrons and sulfur dioxide. This reaction is initiated by sunlight.

The scientists suspected that there were other processes by which sulfuric acid could also occur at night, in particular, they work in forests in Finland, where they found "unaccounted for" concentrations of sulfuric acid. As a result of careful searches, a new way was found that gives rise to the formation of sulfuric acid - the reaction of ozone with olefins.

The discovery has already helped explain the decline in temperatures across much of the southeastern United States. It turns out that sulfuric acid particles, formed over forests in a new way, form more clouds than usual. This is how the region cools, as sunlight is well reflected off the cloud cover back into space.
