The resulting odorous substances give, when dissolved in 90 ° alcohol, the so-called essences or extracts. Solutions of balms and resins give the so-called tinctures. To extract the odorous substance from lipsticks or fragrant oils, the latter are treated in the cold or when heated to 30 ° with wine alcohol with a strength of 95-96 °.

In a small production, the extraction of an odorous substance can be done in an ordinary bottle; in large industries they use special apparatus for the production of extracts. If the work is done in the cold, then it takes from 4 to 6 weeks to dissolve, while when heated, 10-14 days are enough. When working in the cold, a product with a more delicate aroma is obtained. Practically on a small scale, the dissolution is carried out as follows.

Finely chopped lipstick is placed in a strong glass bottle, doused with wine alcohol (in the amount of 125 g per 100 g of lipstick) and shaken from time to time. Do the same with perfumed (fragrant) oil. The finished solution is put in the cold for some time so that all the fat freezes, and it would be easy to drain the clear liquid. Filtering is not recommended, as this somewhat suffers from the purity of the aroma. In order to develop an irreproachable fat-free product, it is necessary to carry out the cooling very carefully, i.e. until freezing until the fat becomes completely solid.

The preparation of essences from essential oils is extremely simple, since essential oils immediately dissolve in alcohol of wine. Various perfume preparations prepared from lipsticks and perfumed oils, however, are significantly superior in their qualities to products obtained from essential oils: they are distinguished by a more subtle and delicate aroma.

The preparation of solutions through the use of artificial pure odorants produced in factories and reproducing the pure and strong aroma of natural odorants has a significant simplification. The solutions prepared from these products are completely transparent and usable at any time. The strength of the essences can be adjusted as desired, but on average, the addition of 20-22 g of artificial aromatic substance per 6 liters of alcohol is sufficient.

Some essences can be used directly, but preparations containing only one odorous substance are rarely used; in most cases, complex perfumery is used, which is a mixture of various essences. All changing essences, tinctures and extracts should be left undisturbed for at least a few weeks, as this will give them a more distinct and refined aroma. When mixing essences and other constituents, it must be borne in mind that the best oils, such as rose, neroli, are always added last and then the composition is well mixed. This mixture should, in any case, stand for some time before pouring it into bottles intended for this purpose.

Recipes for the preparation of perfumery preparations indicate the best products. But these drugs are more or less expensive and sometimes not readily available. You can make very good perfumes from cheaper essences and essential oils, such as essential oils of orange peel, bergamot, lavender, clove, lemon and other oils and ordinary wine alcohol, with a strength of at least 70 °. For such preparations, it is recommended to add solutions of resins, for example, benzoic, toluan or Peru balsams, etc., or ambergris and civet, which significantly increase the strength of the product being made. Finally, appropriate solutions of artificial fragrances also give good perfumes.

Glycolic acid esters were sometimes used to fix aromatic substances, in which the hydrogen of the alcohol hydroxyl was replaced by an aliphatic or aromatic acidyl group. These esters are used singly or in mixtures. Some of them have their own slight floral odor, which does not harm the drug. Some of these esters are completely odorless. As for wood methyl alcohol, it should not be used in perfumery, since its vapors are poisonous.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Submarine powered by lithium-ion batteries 09.10.2018

Japan's Mitsubishi Corporation launched the diesel-electric submarine Oryu at its shipyard in Kobe, Japan's first lithium-ion battery-powered submarine.

Underwater displacement of the new Soryu-class Oryu submarine is 4200 tons, the hull length reaches 84 meters, width - 9,1 meters. The submarine is equipped with a pair of diesel engines and four Stirling engines, necessary to power the propulsion electric motors and charge the batteries in a submerged position. The Oryu is capable of a top speed of 20 knots and can stay submerged for up to three months.

Stirling engines operate in a submerged position due to the combustion of diesel fuel, and the products of its combustion are thrown into the water jet from the propellers. Batteries are necessary for diesel-electric submarines for covert movement, when running diesel engines to power electric motors is highly undesirable. As a rule, lead-acid batteries are used for these purposes, but they are heavy, do not have a large capacity and take a long time to charge.

Lithium-ion batteries have a large capacity, provide a significant increase in the range of the submarine and charge much faster than lead-acid ones. At low speeds, the underwater range of such a submarine is similar to the power reserve on lead-acid batteries and a Stirling engine. In the near future, Oryu will begin testing, and in March 2020 it will be handed over to the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force.
