The name of these inks is completely wrong, since alizarin is not included in their composition. Alizarin ink are prepared from the extract of ink nuts, and they contain acetic acid. In ordinary ink, the dye is in the smallest particles floating in the liquid. In alizarin ink, the presence of a significant dose of acid and glue in them does not result in the formation of a precipitate.

The acetic acid, which is part of the ink, dissolves and maintains the dye in a dissolved form, therefore, in alizarin ink, there is no sediment at all or almost none. However, they have a small drawback, consisting in the fact that they dry quickly, as a result of which they form a thick mass and the pen has to be wiped with a cloth.

To prepare office alizarin ink, take:

  • 10 pieces of ink nut;
  • 6 parts of iron sulfate;
  • 1 part gum arabic;
  • 100 parts of vinegar;
  • 20 parts indigo carmine solution.

Crushed nuts insist in vinegar for 4-6 days. Vitriol and gum arabic are dissolved separately in vinegar, and it is necessary to boil them once. After the liquids have been drained together and strained, the indigo carmine solution is added. The latter should not be added at once in a large amount, but little by little and shake the solution with each addition.

Alizarin ink was first proposed by Leonardi and has the advantage of not depositing. Ink prepared with tannins precipitates over time. To avoid this shortcoming, hydrochloric, sulfuric, or acetic acid is often added to alizarin inks. Alizarin inks usually have a color (blue, green) that fades to black over time on paper. This last feature is currently the most characteristic of alizarin inks.

Alizarin ink according to Leonardi

3,5 g of ink nuts crushed into large grains and 250 g of maroon root are left to stand for several days with 10 liters of warm water; filter, replenish the evaporated water with new water and add with shaking 100 g of indigo solution, 433 g of ferrous sulfate and 166 g of acetic-iron salt solution. The liquid is left to stand quietly for 8-10 days and then drained from the sediment.

A solution of acetic-iron salt is prepared by processing 2 wt. hours of iron wire, turning or other shavings or sawdust, 20 wt. hours of wood vinegar.

Stationery alizarin ink

1st solution

  • Ink nuts (crushed) 600 g;
  • Boiled water 2 liters.

  • Indigo carmine 15 g.

Ink nuts are infused in 2,5 liters of water without heating for 2 days, then filtered. The residue is treated in the same way for 2 days in 2,5 liters of water and filtered again. Both liquids are mixed together, filtered, gum arabic is dissolved in the filtered liquid, first a solution of ferrous sulfate is added, and then a solution of oxalic acid. The resulting mixture is dyed with indigo carmine, previously dissolved in water, and then water is added to obtain 5 liters of ink.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

MAX30205 - medical digital temperature sensor 21.07.2017

The new MAX3025 digital sensor from Maxim Integrated measures human body temperature with an accuracy of 0,1°C over a temperature range of 37...39°C. The sensor will find application in medical devices, devices for sports and fitness.

A feature of the sensor is a 16-bit sigma-delta ADC, which allows you to register a temperature change of four thousandths of a degree.

The chip has an I2C interface with bus blocking protection. With address selection, up to 2 sensors can operate on a single I32C bus. In addition to direct temperature measurement, the MAX3025 contains a temperature comparator that signals on a separate line the fact that the temperature exceeds the set values.

The output of the built-in comparator is implemented as an open drain; it can also operate in the interrupt signal generation mode. In this case, the output value is fixed before the read operation of any register is performed on the I2C bus. The MAX30205 operates from 2,7V to 3,6V with a peak current draw of less than 600µA.

You can use the MAX30205EVSYS# demo kit to get familiar with the capabilities of the new sensor. It allows you to display the temperature value on the PC. The MAX30205 evaluation GUI software is used to display all sensor parameters.
