Botanical description of the plant, area, methods of application, cultivation The Latin name Actaea is of Greek origin, one of the names for elderberry. Perennial herbaceous plant 30-60 (up to 80) cm high, with a powerful knotty and many-headed rhizome and an unpleasant odor. Stem erect, branched, smooth or slightly pubescent, with brown scales at the base. Hemicryptophyte - aerial parts die off for the winter, and renewal buds overwinter at soil level. Leaves are alternate, doubly ternate-pinnately compound or doubly ternate, petiolate, serrated along the edges. Leaflets are ovate or broadly oval or even almost heart-shaped with round asymmetrical marginal teeth. The terminal lobes are shortly pointed. Along the veins, the leaves are sparsely pubescent with ciliated hairs (or completely smooth). Small flowers on short stalks are collected 1-2 in short oval racemose inflorescences (with fruits they stretch into a cylindrical one) on long peduncles, bisexual regular white, the tips of the petals are lilac. Sepals four to five, falling early. Petals from two (four) to six, they are longitudinally scapular. Staminodes are slightly elongated, equal to or slightly longer than the ovary. The fruit is an oblong berry-like juicy multi-seeded black leaflet. Eurasian look. In Europe, it grows almost everywhere, in Asia - in areas with a temperate (Central and Western Asia) and tropical climate (Bhutan, India, Pakistan), in the European part (including all areas of the center) and Western Siberia. In Siberia, it is a relic of Pliocene broad-leaved forests. In Altai, the range has an insular character, significantly separated from the main one. It grows on watersheds, slopes of river valleys, rocky outcrops, in shady forests and shrubs, in the mountains - in the subalpine and alpine zones. Prefers slightly acidic, humus, as well as gravel and clay soils. Partly shade-loving, not too moisture-loving look. All organs of the plant contain alkaloids, transaconitic acid, saponins, seeds - fatty oil (27-31%), and leaves - ascorbic acid. Alkaloids are present in the roots and rhizome of the black crow, and alkaloids and fatty oil are present in the seeds. An inedible, poisonous plant, when ingested, causes nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, in severe cases, tremor, convulsions, confusion. Official medicine is not used. Roots and rhizomes are used in homeopathy. The roots are harvested in late autumn, the fruits - after they are fully ripe. Preparations from this plant have a positive effect on diseases of the cardiovascular system. There are several cases of curing inoperable forms of stomach cancer with the help of herbs and black cohosh fruits. The plant is poisonous, especially the fruits. Even when dried, its toxicity does not completely disappear. The juice of the plant can cause blisters and even ulcers on the skin, the roots - vomiting and severe respiratory distress, the fruits - a state of stun. With the abuse of decoctions and infusions of herbs, tumors and ulcers can appear on the skin, and mucous membranes are also damaged. Preparations from the root can cause vomiting and interruptions in breathing. It is strictly forbidden to use voronets for the treatment of pregnant and lactating women, small children. In case of poisoning, the patient should be taken to the doctor as soon as possible. It is used as an ornamental plant for group plantings in the shade and partial shade, it is not demanding on soils and moisture. The fruits are suitable for the preparation (when boiled with alum) of black paint. In culture, it is propagated by seeds and division of the bush in May, mass self-seeding is possible.
