Few tinkerers can do without an electric drill today. Thanks to various types of nozzles produced by the industry, this tool in skillful runes becomes truly universal, turning either into a circular saw, then into a sharpener, then into a grinder ... However, not all the possibilities of an electric drill have already been realized. For example, I needed to make hidden wiring in my apartment, and for this I need to “gnaw” deep grooves in concrete and wood. Here, even drills with victorious tips turned out to be ineffective. It was then that the idea was born to make a special slotting nozzle - to turn the drill into a mini-hammer drill.

But how to convert the rotational motion of the output shaft of the drill into the reciprocating motion of a chisel or chisel? On reflection, I decided to use balls from a conventional bearing to create a shock wave.

The principle of operation of the nozzle is as follows. A drummer rotates on the shaft of the electric drill, having four balls Ø 4,5 mm in sockets. The mating part - the chipper - also has four similar balls, but the figured cutout of the guide flange does not allow it to rotate. Therefore, at the moment of impact of the balls, the bumper moves forward sharply; a specially installed spring returns it back. The stroke of the bumper is determined by the amount by which the balls protrude from the sockets; my device has 3 mm. After landing the balls, so that they do not fall out, the edges of the nests should be punched.

The nozzle is fastened with a collet clamped by a nut screwed onto the body. The necks of domestic electric drills have the same Ø 37 mm, so the device fits any of them. To install a working tool in the chipper, a hole Ø 9 mm and a depth of 45 mm, as well as a fixing bolt, is provided.

Possible options for interchangeable working tools: A - for woodworking (chisels, chisels), B - for cutting metal (chisel), C - for riveting, D - for plumbing work (file), D - for chiselling brick or concrete using a reamer or tap, E - for chiselling hard material using a welded pobedite head, G - for chiselling-drilling brick (concrete) without a guide flange

Briefly about the materials. Nozzle body, nut, guide flange are made of any steel. But it is desirable to machine the striker and striker from steel having a hardness after heat treatment of HPC 50-55.

With the help of this device, I easily hollowed out grooves in the walls, and there was practically no difference when working with brick and concrete. However, it turned out that the nozzle is capable of performing other operations. The set of interchangeable tools I made made it possible to cut metal, process the surface, and perform riveting. Working with a drill has become more convenient, since now it can be held with two hands - by the handle and the body of the nozzle. And one more feature: this design allows you to combine rotational movement with a blow to the obstacles encountered in the material being processed. To do this, the guide flange of the nozzle is removed, and a special working tool (pos. G, in Fig. 3) rotates, going deep, say, into a brick wall. But as soon as it comes across a solid inclusion, the rotation stops and its movement becomes reciprocating, which will allow destroying obstacles.

And in conclusion, about plans to improve the device. A 3mm fender travel puts a lot of stress on the drill motor, so I intend to reduce this to 1-1,5mm by seating the balls deeper. This should increase tool life without compromising performance.

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Major risk factor for gambling addiction 07.05.2024

Computer games are becoming an increasingly popular form of entertainment among teenagers, but the associated risk of gaming addiction remains a significant problem. American scientists conducted a study to determine the main factors contributing to this addiction and offer recommendations for its prevention. Over the course of six years, 385 teenagers were followed to find out what factors may predispose them to gambling addiction. The results showed that 90% of study participants were not at risk of addiction, while 10% became gambling addicts. It turned out that the key factor in the onset of gambling addiction is a low level of prosocial behavior. Teenagers with a low level of prosocial behavior do not show interest in the help and support of others, which can lead to a loss of contact with the real world and a deepening dependence on virtual reality offered by computer games. Based on these results, scientists ... >>

Traffic noise delays the growth of chicks 06.05.2024

The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. Reduced chances of reproduction and decreased fertility indicate the long-term effects that traffic noise has on wildlife. The study results highlight the need ... >>

Final specifications of 5G standard announced 12.01.2018

The 3GPP (The 3rd Generation Partnership Project) Consortium of Mobile Telephony Specification Developers has unveiled the new NSA 5G NR standard, Release 15, at its quarterly plenary meeting in Lisbon, Portugal.

The 5G NR standard (5th generation, new radio - New Radio) is approved by all members of the global community of telecommunications companies 3GPP.

Earlier this year, the telecommunications industry gave its approval for the accelerated standardization of 5G, for which it was decided to split the process into two phases. The announcement of a non-standalone version of Release 15 NSA (Non-standalone) became a priority.

The release, in fact, was the announcement of the completion of the first phase of 5G standardization, which is considered the most important for developers and equipment manufacturers.

Acceptance of the full specifications of Release 15 Full (with autonomous characteristics) has been postponed to 2018, tentatively to June. As part of this version of the standard, the use of user and control autonomous 5G NR equipment with base stations of the 5G generation (5G next-generation core network, NGC) will be ensured.

Since the standalone and non-standalone (SA and NSA) releases are based on the same physical layer characteristics, it is expected that NSA equipment will be fully compatible with SA technology when it is standardized next year.

The so-called non-autonomous NSA (Non-standalone) 5G mode normalizes the use of enhanced mobile broadband access (enhanced Mobile BroadBand, eMBB) in LTE networks.

In turn, the 5G NR standard implies the use of new frequency bands that provide an increase in data exchange speed while reducing latency. It is this mode that was developed as a foundation for the first years of development and implementation of 5G networks.

The final 5G specifications describe support for multiple frequency spectrums for next-generation mobile networks. The low frequency spectrum includes frequencies in the range of 600-700 MHz. The midrange spectrum includes frequencies in the 3,5 GHz band. The high-frequency spectrum is located in the region of the 50 GHz band.

Officially, data exchange rates for user devices are standardized at up to 20 Gbps for reception and 10 Gbps for transmissions, while the 5G network must maintain a load of at least 500 subscriber connections per square kilometer.
