One of the first scenes of Jurassic Park 3 takes place on a rocky plateau where paleontologists are digging for the fossilized bones of ancient lizards. Such a place could well be the so-called Dinosaur Park. It is located in Canada. In fact, this is not a park at all, but a small and in its own way picturesque area in the very south of the Canadian province of Alberta. It is located on the south bank of the Red Deer (Red Deer) River.

The river meanders lazily through the Canadian steppes, where farmers have long cultivated wheat and corn. A small section of the floodplain is not like the rest. Here water, sun and wind have created natural terraces, small canyons and large ravines. Streams flow at the bottom of rocky hollows. In some places, separate high hills-outliers look like huge Easter cakes. It seems that some giant who fell into childhood left them after his amusements.

In the Mesozoic era, there was a real kingdom of dinosaurs. Here, in the swampy lowlands, styracosaurs looked like giant hippos. Their bone collars were adorned with huge outgrowths that looked like short tusks. Here the hadrosaurs guarded their masonry, uttering lingering cries. Clumsy, but dangerous in defense ankylosaurs stomped slowly.

This area heard the loud thud of bone that came from the clashes of the male Stegoceras. Although they did not have antlers, they butted and bumped their foreheads like modern deer. Here the nimble and extremely dangerous ornithomimus fled gracefully and easily. Huge tyrannosaurs instilled fear in all this brethren.

Paleontologists have found the remains of more than 35 species of ancient extinct reptiles in the Dinosaur Park. In total, about 500 dinosaur skeletons were found here. Their bones are found in other parts of the world, such as in the Gobi Desert, but the Park in Alberta is such a unique place that UNESCO placed it on the World Heritage List in 1979. From Calgary, the nearest major Canadian city, Dinosaur Park is about two and a half hours by highway.

There is a museum in the Park, where you can look at life-size sculptures of dinosaurs and even climb on them. It may not be worthwhile to specifically plan a flight across the Atlantic to look at the work of Canadian paleontologists. However, if you travel around Canada by car, don't forget about the amazing terraces on the banks of the Red Deer River.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

artificial northern lights 01.09.2005

Even 30 years ago, as part of a Soviet-French experiment, scientists caused artificial aurora over the Arkhangelsk region by injecting electron beams into the ionosphere from a rocket specially launched to a height of 150-200 kilometers. And recently, American scientists were able to repeat this experience without climbing up.

From the territory of Alaska, a beam of radio waves was sent into the sky, and the sky lit up with green light. The experiment will help decipher the still not very clear nature of the natural aurora. And some enthusiasts hope that in the future, artificial aurora can be used to illuminate cities at night and even for glowing advertising in the sky.

However, for the experiment, a radio wave generator with a power of one megawatt and an antenna field with an area of more than a hectare were needed. It is probably easier and cheaper to illuminate cities in the traditional way.
