Acquaintance with the culture and nature of Italy usually begins in Rome. Then you can go anywhere - there are enough sights everywhere. If you head northeast to admire the tiny republic of San Marino, which flaunts like a graceful mole on the bronzed cheekbones of powerful Italy, turn up the road to the tiny town of Genga. It is located in the province of Ancona.

The road will go through low mountains - the Umbrian Apennines. Italy, by its configuration on the map, is often compared to a boot. At the same time, the Apennines can be likened to its zipper. They run in several segments almost in the middle of this boot from south to north. The mountains are old, low, their flat tops do not even reach two kilometers in height. Although the road sometimes winds in a serpentine, but it is not very scary. Deep chasms are rare here.

Approaching Genga, you see the yellow-green cutting of Italian fields and the hills bluish from the haze. Beautiful. but such places in Italy are countless. Their unique "trick" is hidden under your feet, in the Frasassi Gorge. There are many cave entrances on its slopes. They have been known to the locals since ancient times. The small chapel of Santa Maria del Frasassi was built in one of them in the 1971th century. However, it is unlikely that this fact would have raised the local caves to the rank of a pan-European attraction, if not for the discovery of 13. Then a group of speleologists from Ancona discovered that the Frasassi caves are much more extensive than expected. The researchers unexpectedly discovered a new system of caves, underground galleries and passages. It stretched for almost XNUMX kilometers! Some of its halls turned out to be so voluminous that a building like a church could easily fit in them.

Speleologists called the largest cave La Grotta Grande del Viento - "The Great Cave of the Wind". It really constantly feels a light stream of air. The waters of local rivers and streams began to wash out the lime from the slopes of the gorge about 200 million years ago. It is not surprising that during this time a fantastic underground world full of extraordinary beauties arose in the Frasassi Karst. There is a so-called Hall of Candles. Thousands of cream-colored stalactites hang from its ceiling, really resembling thick church candles. The rising stalagmites look like fangs of a dragon. In some places, the stalactites almost merge, starting to resemble the pipes of an outlandish organ. Their color varies from snow white to pale pink and bluish green.

In the Hall of Infinity, stalactites and stalagmites merged together to form columns. The most famous is called the Sword of Damocles. Its height is 7,4 meters in height, and its diameter is one and a half meters. These figures are especially impressive if you remember that over a hundred years, the length of stapactite increases by only one centimeter. On the walls of the caves, bizarre streaks appeared, reminiscent of the stucco molding of medieval Gothic cathedrals. The caves have their own "Castle of Witches" and their own "Niagara Falls". Some halls were chosen by bats. There are so many of them here that the ceiling overhead literally moves from the constant movement of their wings.

In the Frasassi caves, you can see small underground lakes with clear water and stone openwork lace, so thin that the rays of lanterns shine through it. Some underground formations look like outlandish hedgehogs. Others resemble plant roots.

In general, there is something to see. The caves are open to the public. Just don't deviate from proven routes. Experts say that so far only a small part of the underground world, which is hidden by the green fields of Ancona, has been explored.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food.
