Perhaps the most important element of equipment or hiking is shoes. A simple and fairly comfortable backpack can be made from an ordinary bag or a piece of canvas. A jacket or trousers are also not decisive, because. in case of cold weather, you can warm up by moving quickly, and in the heat, the need for them simply disappears. But try to walk a few meters in uncomfortable shoes, you will immediately have to take them off and try to walk barefoot. And only a few can walk like that now. Therefore, going on a hiking trip, pay special attention to how you are shod.

Most people walk in running shoes. However, it should be remembered that the vast majority of them were designed exclusively for movement in the comfortable conditions of a city or stadium, i.e. on even and dry surfaces, devoid of any vegetation.

Therefore, they are completely not protected from moisture, they are difficult to dry, any knot will tear through the sole, and they can simply melt at the fire. Good sneakers are enough for 1-2 weeks of the forest route, and cheap ones can fall apart in a day or two. Of course, they are comfortable, and if you plan to move only along flat, well-trodden paths and only horizontally, and in good dry weather, and only after the dew has disappeared, then, of course, go to the market, buy Chinese sneakers and then you can go no further. read.

If you are still planning something more serious, take the choice seriously. There are quite a few options, some of which will be discussed here.

Sneakers

These shoes may seem archaic to someone, maybe even funny. Of course, sneakers are not cool, not prestigious, you won’t surprise anyone with them. However, their user qualities, not to mention the price / quality ratio, are quite high. This is a fairly light and durable shoe. And although it gets wet, it can be dried very quickly and easily.

When choosing, keep the following in mind:

  • the toe should be small, it should not reach the beginning of the fingers;
  • the sole should be fairly even with a shallow, shallow relief;
  • to measure and wear sneakers should be exclusively on a very thick woolen sock;
  • You should not lace up your shoes very tightly.

Boots

Not the best type of travel shoe, although some travelers hope to walk and wash them in the Indian Ocean. Most often use conventional to move around quite comfortably. Boots should fit snugly on the leg, it is better to wear them with footcloths.

Hiking boots

Better than sneakers or boots, but also not the best option, although one of the cheapest. When choosing hiking boots, pay attention to the toe. The main drawback is that the toe is too big, when the seam is located just at the bend of the sole, which leads to the fact that the threads fray very quickly. It is better if the top is cut from one piece of leather, or in extreme cases, overlap the spot to the middle.

Trekking shoes

The best shoe for travel. Now in stores a large number of such shoes are sold, of different quality and at different prices.

The most expensive trekking shoes are designed for high-altitude trekking, at an altitude of 4-5 thousand meters and higher with climbing to high peaks. These are very stiff shoes with Vibram type soles, which are more stable on rocky terrain, and also allow you to move confidently enough on glacier or soft ice. In such shoes, it is quite possible to make an alpine ascent, you can easily hang crampons, snowshoes, etc. on it, but long-term movement in it is quite a tedious task.

Much more comfortable boots for medium and light trekking. Among a large number of models it is difficult to choose what you need, it seems that all are beautiful and comfortable. If you do not have to make long transitions in the snow, and most of your path will pass along the path, scree and rocks, then ordinary trekking boots made of leather or leatherette will suit you. But if you have to make long walks in wet snow, gore-tex boots are the best choice. This material will keep your shoes from getting wet for longer.

When choosing shoes, pay attention to the following:

  • the tongue of the boots should be one piece with the top, this will make them waterproof, suitable for crossing small streams and the possibility of crossing dewy grass;
  • shoelaces should not be threaded through holes, but into loops sewn on top;
  • the sole must be made using Vibram technology;
  • inside the boot there should be no seams that can be felt by hand;
  • ankles should be protected with soft pads;
  • the toe is reinforced with a metal gasket.

It is necessary to measure on a thin woolen sock.

It's not worth lacing too much.

Put on both shoes, try to walk a little in them, the heel should not come off the sole. There should be no pressure

Make sure that the phalanges of the fingers feel free

It is better to take shoes a little more than necessary than vice versa.

If you are going on an easy trekking in a hot dry area, for example, through the mountains of Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Greece, then just trekking shoes. They differ from running and other models in a special sole, which provides better grip on the surface of the stone, which prevents the foot from slipping when moving on the ground, stones, rocks. This is especially noticeable on wet trails. They also have a more rigid structure and the foot is placed more stable, uneven soil and small stones are less felt. Reinforced sides and toe enhance durability. If you have to move in the heat, then it is advisable to buy trekking shoes that have breathable inserts made of a special material for ventilation.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Ghost Robotics dog robots to guard the border 12.02.2022

In the United States began to use robotic dogs to guard the borders. Patrol dog robots are being tested on the southern border of the United States.

The robots are being tested in a variety of situations, and so far have been successful, according to Department of Homeland Security officials. There is no set timeline for the full rollout of these autonomous four-legged robots to begin, but it could happen in the very near future thanks to successful trials.

The development of these machines will continue, and the southern border of the United States could be a great place to use these machines, given its inhospitable terrain.

Development is being led by DHS' research and development arm, the Office of Science and Technology, which specializes in automated ground observation vehicles (AGSVs). The machines are created by robotics manufacturer Ghost Robotics, known for their Ghost Vision 60 robot.

DHS test robot dogs are equipped with inspection cameras and sensors and are programmed to autonomously patrol pre-set GPS waypoints. They can inspect train carriages at railroad stations, walk through carriages, examine residences, and react to encounters with potentially hostile people. They are well suited for rough terrain at the border.
