Variety of designs raftsapplied in practice is determined both by the nature and scale of the rivers, and the purposes for which they are intended.

To cross a large and deep river, a small raft is built - a salik for crossings. It is the simplest in design and equipment and is made from improvised material within a few hours. When it becomes necessary to explore the lake, or when movement along the shore is very difficult, they build a raft, or salik, for swimming on the lake. Such a raft is equipped with oars, which are rowed in the same way as on a boat.

If a group camps at a reservoir for several days, then the effort and time spent on building a salik for hunting and fishing is usually more than paid off with rich trophies. Such a salik for one or two people can consist of only two logs.

Most often, rafts are used for rafting down rivers. A raft for flat rivers can often be bulky, with tents, with a hearth. The requirements for its strength and maneuverability are low. Significantly higher requirements are imposed on rafts intended for navigation on taiga and, especially, mountain rivers. For navigation along the taiga rivers, easily controlled saliks are often knitted, only 3-4 m long, from 4-5 logs, on which two people and a small load can hardly fit. Logs are tied here more firmly, and both poles and rows are used for control.

The most durable and complex in design and equipment are rafts for navigation on racing rivers. They are made with particular care and are equipped with powerful oars, often exceeding the length of the raft. These rafts must be able to withstand strong impacts against rocks and rocks and withstand large ramparts on the rapids.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Computer mouse controlled by mouth 26.04.2003

In Japan, a computer mouse was invented that does not need to be touched when controlling the cursor. To do this, just blow on it and click your tongue at the right time.

Created with the participation of specialists from the University of Hokkaido, the mouse resembles a microphone on a long stem, installed in front of the monitor just at the level of the user's mouth.

The device is equipped with four sensory membranes. You need to blow in the direction where you want to move the cursor, the membranes automatically pick up the direction of breathing, and when you need to execute a command, the user must click his tongue.
