PERSONAL TRANSPORT: GROUND, WATER, AIR
Aquaped. Personal transport Directory / Personal transport: land, water, air Let's agree right away: you know how to swim and are not afraid of depth. However, you want to swim faster than your naked arms and legs, or even fins, will allow. Then take on the construction of an aquaped - a water bike. It develops a speed of 6-8 km / h. With it, you can swim for a long time without feeling tired. Aquapeds are available in single screw and double screw versions. Single screws are much simpler and easier to manufacture. But when the screw rotates in the water, the aquaped itself tends to rotate in the other direction. The swimmer has to spend a lot of effort to dampen the torque. Twin-screw aquapeds have two identical screws that spin in opposite directions. The torques of the screws are equal and directed towards each other, they cancel each other out. The twin-screw aquaped of the proposed design weighs about 7 kg. Once without a rider, he cannot drown; it has "positive buoyancy", albeit a small one. Buoyancy is achieved by the fact that all parts of its frame, made of light duralumin tubes with an outer diameter of about 18-25 mm, are completely sealed. In addition, floats (19 and 20, see drawing) are attached to the frame, soldered, for example, from cans. The volume of the floats depends on the weight of the structure, it is selected so that the aquaped floats almost horizontally on the water, slightly raising the front part. Node I is the main one, it transmits the movement from the pedals to the screws. In order not to bother with the manufacture of bevel gears, you can use the mechanisms of two old drills. The axis of the large bevel gear 4 is held by the bearing 1, which must be sawn out of steel. Case 3 is attached to the frame with 2 M5 screws. To prevent water from entering the frame tubes through the mounting holes, rubber washers should be placed under the screw heads. The same washers are placed under the nuts. Bearing 1 is also fixed in housing 3 with M5 screws. If you decide to make a frame out of large diameter tubes, they will need to be slightly flattened at the housing 3 attachment point in order to mesh the two large 4 bevel gears with the smaller diameter 5 bevel gears. These gears rotate in different directions. The front gear 5 is fixed with a pin on the axis 7 - a long rod made of steel or duralumin with a diameter of 10 mm. Axis 7 rotates freely in the through hole of the bearing 1 and in the axis-tube 6, also made of steel. The rear gear 5 is soldered with refractory solder or butt welded to the tube axle 6. The inner diameter of this axle should be about 12-14 mm so that the axle 7 can easily rotate in the tube. The outer diameter of the axis-tube is 14-18 mm. Gears 4 are put on screws screwed into bearing 1. Pedals from a bicycle, such as an Eaglet, are attached to the gears with screws or welded on. The pedal bars should be slightly bent with a hammer in a vise to increase the distance between the pedals. Propeller assembly II includes two propellers with two, three or four blades each. The blades are made of sheet duralumin with a thickness of 1,5-2,5 mm. They are fastened with screws on bushings 10 and 11, machined from duralumin, at an angle of 60° to the axis of the bushing. The propeller blades should be filed all at once, folding the blanks into a bag. Pay attention to the bearing 9. It must be made of sheet brass or bronze; axle 6 should rotate freely in it. Fasten bearing 9 on frame tubes with 2 clamps. The small bearing 12 is a brass or bronze ring pressed into the axle-tube 6; axis 7 freely rotates in this bearing. Bushings 10 and 11 are attached to axles 6 and 7 with pins or screws. To fix the distance between the screws (100 mm), a piece of tube is installed. The other end of the axle 6 is fixed with a stop bracket in the place where the gear 5 is attached to the axle. The connection of the two halves of the aquaped - III and IV - is detachable: the tubes of the frame 2 and 13 are simply connected. This is done in order to be able to adjust the size of the aquaped to the height of the swimmer, as well as quickly disassemble the aquaped into two components for transportation. Node IV includes saddle 14, curved from the same tubes from which the frame is made. Before bending the tube under the saddle, it must be filled with fine sand and slightly heated. The ends of the tube are flattened for sealing. The place of attachment of the saddle on the frame is determined according to the height of the aquapedist. The horizontal steering wheel of the aquapede (V node) is located in front. It consists of a pen 17, an axis 18 and a crossbar 15; the axle and crossbar are made of the same duralumin tubes as the frame. In the upper part, the axle 18 has a clamp that holds the crossbar 15. Unit IV is easily disassembled: the crossbar 15 is removed from the clamp, and then the axle is freely removed from the sleeve 16 down. Bushing 16 looks like a coil, made of duralumin or plastic. The distance between the cheeks of the sleeve is approximately equal to the diameter of the frame pipes. The sleeve 16 is covered by the frame tube 13, which is flattened from the inside, and thus is held in the frame. Rudder feather 17 is cut out of a sheet of duralumin 1,5 mm thick and riveted to axle 18. Floats soldered from cans are also attached to the front half of the frame (Node VI). They are held on the frame with aluminum ties or rubber rings cut off from the car camera. The dimensions of the entire structure, as well as the location of the saddle, we do not specify. They depend on the height of the aquapedist. The aquapedist begins to master the machine, armed with a mask and a breathing tube, which he will need to observe underwater inhabitants. Since body cooling increases dramatically at high speed, we advise you to wear a simple wet or dry type wetsuit, for example, made of baby oilcloth or polyethylene. It is not difficult to turn a water bike into an underwater one. It is possible, for example, add a vertical steering wheel or, abandoning any steering wheels, control the movement only with the help of the body and hands. In this case, the frame is attached to the body with a quick-release belt. The underwater option can only be recommended to experienced scuba divers.
