Sony IMX661 large format CMOS image sensor 12.03.2021

Sony has announced the upcoming release of the IMX661 large format image sensor. It is a CMOS type sensor with a diagonal size of 56,73mm and an effective resolution of 13 x 400 pixels (9528MP) is the highest in the industry. The global shutter sensor is designed for industrial applications.

The pixel size is 3,45 µm. The optical format of the sensor is 3,6 inches. The area and resolution of the IMX661 is almost 10 times greater than the "conventional image sensors" of the 1,1" optical format, mainly used in C-mount industrial cameras.

Proprietary Pregius global shutter technology allows you to shoot moving objects without distortion. In addition, the sensor's original configuration and high-speed interface enable image capture at up to four times the speed of "conventional sensors". More specifically, a 127,68 MP image with a 10-bit data representation can be read 21,8 times per second.

Using the 12-bit representation reduces the frequency to 19,6 fps, and the 14-bit representation reduces the frequency to 12,9 fps. The sensor implements binning, multiple exposure and other functions that expand the possibilities of its application.
