This simple watch, which uses a combination of water and gravity, can be assembled by anyone with a soldering iron. They will decorate your home and attract the attention of people who are not familiar with the principle of operation of such a device.

The main part of the clock is a metal drum partially filled with water. It is suspended from two cords wound around a rod passing through the drum. Gravity forces the drum to rotate as the cord unwinds, but this process is controlled by three spacer plates soldered into the drum, each with a small hole punched into it. Water flowing out of these holes gradually shifts the center of gravity of the drum, which causes it to rotate.

For this clock, shown in Figure 1, the bottom of a 14 cm long tomato can was used. The rod passing through the center of the can has a diameter of 4,8 mm.

Figure 2 shows the installation of partitions. During the assembly process, the plates are inserted into the slots of the cover, from where they protrude slightly, and soldered, which makes it possible to make a waterproof drum. The axis passing through the drum is also soldered.

A hole with a diameter of 6 mm is drilled in the lid, through which water is poured, and if water is boiled in the drum just before sealing, then the risk of rust will be eliminated, since there is no oxygen in the boiled water that causes corrosion. Naturally, the drum must be completely sealed.

After the device is assembled, it will be necessary to fix it on a temporary suspension in order to determine the length of the hour scale. This must be done before the device is installed on its permanent hanger. The drum is placed in an outer case made of bronze, which will give the watch a beautiful appearance. In order to mark the clock scale, some experiments will be required. To accurately mark the scale, use an accurate clock.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>
