From iron wire or sewing needles, make a star like the one shown in the figure and place it on the tip of the needle. Place a magnet and a candle or a good gas lighter next to the star. Light a fire and wait. As soon as the ray of the star becomes red hot, the star will turn, and its next ray will be attracted to the magnet. The rotation will stop only when the fire goes out.

Curie point

The essence of the phenomenon is that hot iron, unlike cold iron, is not attracted to a magnet. The temperature at which iron "demagnetizes" is called the Curie point.

Today there are materials having a Curie point of 60 to 100°C, in the form of thin foil. With them, the experience will be much brighter. I must say that this trick makes sense. Based on this principle, it is possible to create a heat engine, to which many serious scientific studies have been devoted.

If it were possible to transfer all possible heat from a hot place to a cold one and add a little heat from a candle, a very good economical engine would turn out.

So far, no one has succeeded. But maybe you'll be lucky?

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

A black hole can become a portal 07.09.2020

Scientists have proposed how to make a portal out of a black hole. We are talking about a stable tunnel that can accommodate a spaceship, despite the fact that for a long time the wormholes were either too small or too unreliable.

Research in this direction was carried out by specialists from Princeton. Scientists have found confirmation of the possibility of creating a "wormhole" in space, which will be enough, among other things, to fit a full-fledged ship. In such a wormhole, one can travel, not only through space, but also through time. A starship would be able to travel to distant points in the universe in moments, but by earthly standards, such a "journey" would take thousands of years.

At the same time, the contents of black holes are still unknown to mankind. In this regard, its surface is called the "event horizon". Getting to the latter would require anti-gravity acting as a repulsive force. A similar property should have a substance known as exotic matter. It is assumed that everything is not the way people are used to. For example, a piece of such matter can have a weight of minus 3 kg.

The authors of the new work admit that it is possible to obtain one from particles known as massless fermions, which do not have weight, like photons. Due to their lightness, they manage to fly at the speed of light. Scientists admit that there are five dimensions, and a wormhole leads through one of them.
