The glow of this lamp is truly a magical sight. In her glass vessel, large, brightly colored bubbles are constantly forming and moving, creating a play of light.

The principle underlying this "mysterious" phenomenon is simple. There are two immiscible liquids in a glass vessel - one water-based (with the addition of alcohol), the other oil-based. At room temperature, the density of an oily liquid is slightly greater than that of an aqueous liquid. A water-based liquid can be uncolored or tinted lightly, an oil-based liquid can be dyed a bright color. The glass vessel is mounted on a plinth, inside which there is an electric light bulb that illuminates the contents of the vessel through a transparent bottom. At the same time, the light bulb heats up the liquids. An oil-based liquid at room temperature at the bottom of a vessel expands when heated and rises in large bubbles. At the surface, it cools and sinks down. This simple physical phenomenon creates a funny movement and play of light.

Similar lamps could be seen at VDNKh in the Electronics pavilion. They invariably aroused the interest of visitors. As you can see, the principle of operation of the lamp is simple, you can do it yourself.

Magic lamp

What should be stocked up. To make a lamp, you will need: a glass cylindrical vessel with a well-fitting lid; base material (wood, metal, plastic); socket for an electric light bulb; light bulb 25 W; Castor oil; dye, soluble in fats and insoluble in water and alcohol (you can experiment with oil art paints); alcohol (90-96 degrees).

Base manufacturing. It can be of any shape and be made from any material. A glass vessel and a light bulb hidden under it are fixed at the base. Several holes are drilled in the side walls for cooling.

Preparation of liquids. First, color the fat-based liquid with the dye of the desired color. Pour it into a glass vessel, where a mixture of water and alcohol has already been poured. A small space should be left at the top of the vessel, which will be filled when the liquid expands from heating. If the fatty liquid immediately floats, change the density of the water-based liquid by adding alcohol. Test if the lamp works by heating the bottom of the vessel. If necessary, add more alcohol or water (the addition of alcohol leads to a decrease, and water - an increase in the density of the aqueous solution). When the lamp works satisfactorily, close the lid tightly (with glue).

Now it remains to collect all the parts, insert the glass vessel into the base and, finally, turn on the "magic lamp".

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>
