white quebracho

The white quebracho is a South American tree.

It grows in the northern regions of Argentina; species of the genus Aspidosperma of the Kutrovye family (Apocynaceae).

The uniformly colored wood of white quebracho has a yellowish-yellow color, with no difference between the heartwood and sapwood. It is quite heavy (density = 885 kg/m3), hard and has high bending strength. When dried, it is prone to shrinkage, deformation and cracking, so the drying process should be slow.

Wood needs to be treated with fungicides. Easily worked and often used for carpentry (wagons, wheels, floors, shoes, tool handles, furniture), white quebracho is also used to make chess pieces, skis, etc.

After creosote treatment, it can also be used outdoors. In some places, white quebracho wood is used as fuel, as it burns hot and slowly, does not spark, and does not leave much ash.

The white quebracho (Aspidosperma quebracho-blanco) is a tree from the Apocine family, native to South America. It can reach a height of up to 30 meters and has a wide crown.

Tips for growing, harvesting and storing white quebracho:

Cultivation:

  • White quebracho prefers sunny places and well-drained soils with a neutral or slightly acidic reaction. It can also grow in dry, nutrient-poor soils.
  • White quebracho is best planted in spring or fall. The planting depth should be the same as for most trees, about a depth equal to the height of the root. Before planting, make sure that the soil is well saturated with water.
  • The distance between plants should be at least 5 meters so that the trees have enough room to grow.
  • Keep the soil moist around the roots, especially in the first few years after planting. Moderate watering once a week for the first two years may be sufficient.
  • Remove dry or damaged branches.
  • Pruning is necessary to maintain the shape of the crown and to remove damaged or diseased branches.
  • Do not use fertilizers containing high levels of nitrogen, as this can lead to unwanted rapid growth and reduced wood quality.
  • Regularly remove weeds and other plants that can compete for nutrients and water.

Workpiece:

  • White quebracho is a valuable and durable material for the production of furniture and other wood products.
  • The best time to collect wood is winter, when the tree is dormant.
  • Wood must be dried before use.

Storage:

  • White quebracho wood can be stored in dry and cool places.
  • It is recommended that the wood be laid flat and not placed vertically to prevent warping.
  • It is also recommended to provide good ventilation to avoid the accumulation of moisture, which can lead to rotting of the wood.

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>
