Ficus rubbery (Ficus elastic)

A species of plants from the genus Ficus (Ficus) of the Mulberry family (Moraceae).

Rubber ficus is an evergreen tree reaching a height of 30-40 meters.

The leaves are alternate, oval with a sharp end, leathery, shiny, up to 20-30 cm long and 10-20 wide. Young leaves are pinkish-brown in color, old ones are dark green.

The fruits are small, yellow-green, oval in shape, reaching a diameter of 1 cm.

The barrel contains up to 15% rubber.

The homeland of the plant is the northeast of India (Assam) and the south of Indonesia (the islands of Sumatra and Java).

Ficus rubber is of industrial importance as a tree that gives rubber.

Outside the tropics, the plant is grown as an ornamental houseplant.

In India, it is used to grow "living" suspension bridges.

Ethnoscience:

  • Improving digestion: infuse the leaves of rubbery ficus in boiling water for 15-20 minutes. Cool the infusion and drink it before meals. This infusion helps to improve the functioning of the digestive system, reduce inflammation and pain in the stomach.
  • Treatment for muscle pain: Heat coconut oil and add ficus rubber leaf powder to it. Apply the resulting ointment to the affected areas of the body and massage until completely absorbed. This ointment helps reduce muscle disease and improve blood circulation in the muscles.
  • Treatment of skin problems: infuse the leaves of rubbery ficus in boiling water for 15-20 minutes. Cool the infusion and use it to wipe problem areas of the skin with eczema, psoriasis or other skin diseases. This infusion helps reduce inflammation and relieve itching.
  • Wound treatment: infuse the leaves of rubbery ficus in boiling water for 15-20 minutes. Cool the infusion and use it to wash wounds. This infusion helps speed up wound healing, reduce inflammation and relieve pain.

Cosmetology:

  • Mask for the face: Grind ficus rubber leaves in a blender until a smooth paste is obtained. Apply the paste on your face and leave on for 10-15 minutes, then rinse with warm water. This mask helps to moisturize the skin, reduce inflammation and improve the complexion.
  • Shampoo for strengthening hair: infuse the leaves of rubber ficus in boiling water for 30-40 minutes. Cool the infusion and use it as a shampoo. This shampoo helps strengthen hair, improve texture and shine, and protect hair from environmental damage.

cultivated and wild plants. Legends, myths, symbolism, description, cultivation, methods of application

Rubber ficus (Ficus elastica) is a large tree that grows in the tropical regions of South Asia.

Tips for growing, harvesting and storing rubber ficus:

Cultivation:

  • Ficus rubbery prefers bright but diffused lighting. It can grow in partial shade, but does not tolerate direct sunlight.
  • The soil should be moist but well drained. Ficus does not tolerate drying out of the soil and the occurrence of water in the roots.
  • Planting depth should be such that the roots are well covered with soil.
  • The distance between plants should be at least 1 meter.
  • Ficus rubbery needs regular watering and fertilizer.
  • The plant needs regular pruning to maintain its shape and remove damaged branches.
  • Remove dry leaves and branches regularly, and control for pests and diseases.
  • Ficus rubber can be sensitive to changing conditions and location, so try not to move it frequently.

Workpiece:

  • Ficus rubbery is not commonly used in cooking.
  • Ficus leaves and branches can be used for decorative purposes such as wreaths and bouquets.

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Major risk factor for gambling addiction 07.05.2024

Computer games are becoming an increasingly popular form of entertainment among teenagers, but the associated risk of gaming addiction remains a significant problem. American scientists conducted a study to determine the main factors contributing to this addiction and offer recommendations for its prevention. Over the course of six years, 385 teenagers were followed to find out what factors may predispose them to gambling addiction. The results showed that 90% of study participants were not at risk of addiction, while 10% became gambling addicts. It turned out that the key factor in the onset of gambling addiction is a low level of prosocial behavior. Teenagers with a low level of prosocial behavior do not show interest in the help and support of others, which can lead to a loss of contact with the real world and a deepening dependence on virtual reality offered by computer games. Based on these results, scientists ... >>

Traffic noise delays the growth of chicks 06.05.2024

The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. Reduced chances of reproduction and decreased fertility indicate the long-term effects that traffic noise has on wildlife. The study results highlight the need ... >>

Transparent sensors based on Gorilla Glass 24.06.2014

Everyone knows Gorilla Glass. They protect the displays of most mid-range and high-end smartphones, at least when it comes to well-known brands.

The company's specialists, together with scientists from the Polytechnic University of Montreal, have developed two new completely transparent sensors based on Corning glass. The developers managed to achieve this by abandoning the usual methods of transmitting information used in this case. Instead of albeit very thin, but still metal wires, scientists used optical waveguides obtained directly on the glass surface by etching.

Thanks to this, it was possible to create two sensors: a temperature sensor based on the Mach-Zehnder interferometer and an infrared identification sensor. The first one is the most interesting in that it measures the temperature due to microchanges in the glass structure itself, and hence changes in the parameters of the waveguide.

For now, these are just the first steps. But in the future, such technologies will help create almost completely transparent devices.
