The way to test the inductor is extremely simple.

Two windings are wound on the core, containing an arbitrary amount of thin wire with a diameter of 0,2-0,3 mm (which will turn up under the arm), the ratio of turns should be about 10 - it doesn’t really matter either.

Method for measuring the saturation current of the core of an inductor, transformer or inductor

Example. The secondary winding is wound. Turns do not need to be counted - arbitrarily. But the primary winding - the number of turns is very important. The input voltage is adjustable from 0 to 20-25 volts. The ballast resistor is powerful and is rated in terms of power for the full current and voltage of the power source. The switching transistor is a powerful field-effect or IGBT transistor without a flyback diode. By voltage - at least 10 times must exceed the power source.

Test. We turn on the generator of rectangular pulses 2-3 Hz. When operated at such a low frequency, the turns of the primary winding will create a steady state induction in the core. Excess current is dissipated by the resistor. When the transistor closes, a pulsed voltage is induced in the secondary winding, the amplitude of which is released on the capacitor up to a certain value. The higher the induction in the core, the higher the output voltage. The inclusion of the secondary winding must be reverse, i.e. the voltage spike at the output should be when the transistor closes. the load resistor of the capacitor is a discharge resistor, it should not consume a significant current, say 10-15 mA, it is chosen arbitrarily.

Gradually increasing the input voltage from the power source (i.e. increasing the current through the primary winding) - we achieve the moment when the output voltage growth stops. All. heart was saturated. A further increase in current does not give a result. The transistor is switched briefly to the open position for 3-5 seconds and we record the ammeter readings.

Example. The primary winding is wound with 20 turns of thick wire. The current in the circuit was 22 A.

We consider 20 turns * 22 A \u440d XNUMX Amperes / turn.

Therefore, this magnetic circuit can be saturated to the limit either with one turn with a current of 440A, or 40 turns of 11 A, or 440 turns with a current of 1A. Despite the extreme simplicity of the method, it gives extremely accurate results.

This method is used to calculate magnetic amplifiers with feedback - amplistats. For ferrite chokes, the frequency can be increased.

Traffic noise delays the growth of chicks 06.05.2024

The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. Reduced chances of reproduction and decreased fertility indicate the long-term effects that traffic noise has on wildlife. The study results highlight the need ... >>

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

CoolSiC 1200V Silicon Carbide MOSFETs in TO247-3/-4 Package 16.01.2020

Infineon's new 1200V CoolSiC MOSFETs in the TO247-3/-4 package are based on state-of-the-art semiconductor technologies and optimized for high performance and reliability.

The advantage of using SiC transistors compared to Si solutions is higher efficiency, which is especially important for power conversion systems. Compared to Si-based IGBTs and MOSFETs, SiC MOSFETs have several advantages: the lowest gate charge and capacitance levels among 1200V switches, no internal diode recovery loss, low temperature-independent switching loss, and no-threshold characteristic.

CoolSiC MOSFETs are great for hard and resonant switched topologies such as power factor correction (PFC) circuits, bi-directional topologies, DC/DC converters or DC/AC inverters.

Features:

Low switching losses;
Non-threshold characteristic;
Wide gate-source voltage range;
Gate threshold voltage VGS(th) = 4,5V;
Controlled voltage slew rate (dV/dT);
Robust current-carrying diode for hard switching;
Switching losses are independent of temperature;
Maintaining operability in the event of a short circuit for 3 μs at a gate voltage of 15 V.
Available for order in TO247-4 packages. This package has an additional source signal pin to optimize the switching process.

Application:

Solar energy conversion systems;
Electric vehicle charging systems;
Uninterruptible power supplies (UPS);
Power supplies;
Engine management.
