Common chastuha (plantain chastuha, water plantain)

Chastuha plantain is a perennial wetland plant with elongated rhizomes and bunches of basal narrow oval leaves.

Distributed in the European part of Russia, the Caucasus, the Far East, Siberia, and Central Asia. Three species grow on the territory of Ukraine: plantain, lanceolate and Lezel.

Like other vegetables, chastukha is eaten raw, baked and boiled. To taste, its roots resemble Jerusalem artichoke or sweet potatoes. From dried and crushed rhizomes, flour and cereals are prepared. Rhizomes contain starch, sugars, proteins.

A decoction of the roots is used in traditional medicine as a tonic and laxative.

cultivated and wild plants. Legends, myths, symbolism, description, cultivation, methods of application

Common Chastuha (Alisma plantago-aquatica) is an aquatic perennial plant that is often used as a decorative element in ponds and reservoirs.

Tips for growing, harvesting and storing common parts:

Cultivation:

  • Choose a landing site that is in or near water.
  • Make sure the water depth does not exceed 30-50 cm.
  • Plant plants with an interval of 30-40 cm between them.
  • Plants need soil that is rich in nutrients such as clay, silt, or mulch.
  • Water the plants regularly to keep the soil moist but not waterlogged.

Workpiece:

  • Harvest the leaves of the common chastuha during the summer or early fall when they are in good condition.
  • Leave the leaves in a ventilated place to dry.
  • Store common chastuha leaves in storage bags or containers with tightly closed lids in a cool, dry place.

Storage:

  • Store common chastuha leaves in a cool and dry place at a temperature of 0 to 5 °C.
  • Provide adequate ventilation to prevent mold growth.
  • Do not allow too high or low humidity to avoid rotting of plant material.
  • Periodically check the leaves for mold or rot and remove damaged plant parts.

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Glass to protect secrets 07.02.2005

British engineers have figured out how to protect information that can fly through window glass.

Computers in the office are now usually connected to each other not with wires, but with radio waves. And they easily pass through glass, which means that any attacker can gain access to confidential information.

Scientists at the University of Warwick have created a method for making glass that understands which radio signals can and cannot be emitted outside a building. To achieve this, an electrical circuit is applied to the glass - a tunable dipole grating. It is made using thin film technology from optically transparent components and freely transmits light. Such a lattice has three advantages over conventional, non-adjustable ones.

Firstly, it is possible to block exactly the frequency at which computers communicate with each other, and in which case this setting can be easily changed. Secondly, there is no need to develop a special grille for each window size - just one model is enough that adjusts to any size. Thirdly, it is possible to compensate for small errors that inevitably arise in the manufacture of the grating.
