Mallotus Philippine

Philippine mallotus is a plant of the Euphorbiaceae family, a species of the genus Mallotus, which grows wild throughout tropical Asia, as well as in Northern and Eastern Australia.

Philippine mallotus is a dioecious large shrub or tree up to 10 m high. The leaves are alternate, narrowed at the top and base. The flowers are small, collected in dense spikes. The fruit is a three-celled, almost spherical capsule, covered with glands and hairs.

The raw material is kamala, which is the red glands of the plant taken from the fruit along with hairs. To obtain it, the fruits are folded into a basket or sieve. Under them enclose paper or cloth and begin to shake. The glands and hairs are thus erased from the boxes and fall on the litter in the form of a fine red powder. Kamala has no smell and taste.

Kamala contains 10-20% rotlerin and ozorotlerin, which have antihelminthic properties, and 80% resin, which has a laxative effect.

Kamala in the form of a porridge, at a dose of 5-10 g, is used against tapeworms and at the same time is a laxative.

Philippine mallotus (Mallotus philippensis) is an evergreen tree or shrub that grows in tropical and subtropical regions.

Tips for growing, harvesting and storing mallotus:

Cultivation:

  • Soil: Philippine mallothus prefers fertile soils with good drainage and a pH of 6 to 7.
  • Light: Philippine mallothus grows best in full sun, but can survive in partial shade.
  • Landing: Philippine mallotus can be planted both in the ground and in containers. Plants should be planted at a distance of 2-3 m from each other.
  • Planting depth: Philippine mallotus roots should be buried in the soil to a depth equal to the size of the root.
  • Watering: Philippine mallothus needs regular watering during its growth period, but does not tolerate soil flooding.
  • Pruning: Pruning is recommended to shape the crown and keep the plant compact.
  • Fertilizer: Philippine mallotus can be fertilized with an all-purpose plant fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during active growth.
  • Pest control: Philippine mallotus can be attacked by insects, so insecticides should be applied if a problem occurs.

Preparation and storage:

  • Harvesting: To harvest the fruits of Philippine mallotus, they must be cut when they begin to turn yellow and separate from the tree.
  • Drying: Harvested Mallotus Philippine fruits should be dried in the sun until completely dry.
  • Storage: Dry fruits of Philippine mallotus should be stored in a cool and dry place in airtight containers.

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

The secret of the evergreen spruce is revealed 01.01.2021

Scientists have managed to solve the mystery of conifers and find out why they stay green in winter and summer. Many people know that, due to their smaller surface area and denser skin, the needles of fir trees are more resistant to low temperatures than the leaves. They are also protected by a layer of wax.

A team of scientists from Sweden, the Netherlands and Canada has conducted a new study of conifers growing in the cold. At the same time, for the purity of the experiment, the study took place on the street. As a result, they managed to decipher the mechanism of photosynthesis in coniferous plants. In winter, spruces switch to a special mode that protects photosynthetic proteins from damage.

The fact is that in winter, due to frost, many biochemical reactions of plants slow down. Tree needles absorb sunlight, but the process of photosynthesis has a shorter cycle and cannot reach the end.

Also, the very internal structure of the firs has a special appearance. Unlike deciduous plants, conifers have two apparatus for photosynthesis. At high temperatures, photosystems I and II are separated from each other to ensure an efficient process. In winter, the second begins to transfer its energy to the first.

Such a device helps conifers survive in harsh climates, as well as maintain their green needles at any time of the year.
