Lyubka two-leaved is a herbaceous plant 20-50 cm high with two undivided root tubers. Some grow up to 60 cm. Every year a new replacement tuber grows. The tuberoid is ovoid thickened, extended into the root ending.

Leaves: basal - two, rarely one or three, arranged almost oppositely, narrowed at the base into a petiole, passing into the vagina, contiguous, obtuse oblong-obovate, light green, glossy, reach a length of 8-22 cm, a width of 3 -6 cm; stem - one-three, small, sessile, lanceolate.

The inflorescence is a rare cylindrical spike, reaches 20 cm in length, consists of 8-40 flowers. Flowers - with white, slightly greenish perianths at the ends; lip narrow, linear or lanceolate, 12 mm long, without tubercles at base above midrib; with parallel anthers 2 mm long. The spur is thin, slightly curved, pointed at the end, horizontal or obliquely upward directed. Adhesives are rounded. Pollinarium is shorter than 2,5 mm. Flowers have a strong pleasant aroma (especially in the evening and at night or in cloudy weather). Blooms in June - July.

Fruits in August - September.

It grows widely throughout Europe, as well as in Asia Minor and the Caucasus.

On the territory of Russia, two-leaved lyubka grows in the European part, Western and Eastern Siberia throughout the forest belt and in the forest-steppe, in the mountain-forest and subalpine belts of the Caucasus, Altai, Sayan.

Inhabits light coniferous, deciduous and mixed forests in clearings and forest edges on moist poor soils.

Pollinated by nocturnal hawks.
