Shock - a life-threatening condition resulting from mental shock or physical damage.

Cardiogenic shock develops when the heart is damaged (myocardial infarction, toxic lesions, etc.) due to a decrease in cardiac output and a violation of the contractile function of the heart.

Symptoms. Arterial pressure (systolic and diastolic) decreases sharply, there is a violation of consciousness (lethargy), pallor occurs, body temperature decreases. The severity of symptoms may vary.

First aid

Anesthesia (analgin, baralgin, etc.).

Increase in blood flow to the heart by raising the patient's legs by 15-20°.

When the heart and breathing stop - artificial ventilation of the lungs and heart massage.

Call for an ambulance.

Traumatic shock - pathological response to injury with hemodynamic disturbance (decrease in the volume of circulating blood as a result of bleeding). Fluid with a large blood loss begins to move from the tissues into the bloodstream. Extracellular and then cellular dehydration occurs.

Signs. Initially, patients are excited, then inhibited. Consciousness is preserved. The skin is pale. The condition can be of varying severity (grade 1-4). At grade 4, the condition is extremely severe, consciousness becomes confused and fades away, there is a decrease in blood pressure (systolic - below 60 mm Hg), pulse 140-160 beats per minute.

First aid

It is necessary to stop bleeding (if possible) by applying tourniquets, tight bandages; tamponade of a bleeding vessel, etc.

Call a special anti-shock ambulance team.

Traffic noise delays the growth of chicks 06.05.2024

The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. Reduced chances of reproduction and decreased fertility indicate the long-term effects that traffic noise has on wildlife. The study results highlight the need ... >>

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

Character traits can be inherited 03.03.2019

Some character traits can be inherited. This is stated in a study by scientists from the University of Pennsylvania (USA).

The scientists recruited 720 pairs of siblings, including twins, blood relatives and half-relatives, to participate in the study. At the beginning of the study, the volunteers were 12-14 years old, and at the end of the study - 25-27 years old. In particular, the experts were interested in what kind of atmosphere (positive or negative) prevailed in the families of the subjects. In addition, the participants in the experiment passed psychological tests that help identify certain traits of their character.

Based on the results of the study, scientists came to the conclusion that character can be inherited. Thus, behavioral reactions can be provoked by an innate character trait, and not just upbringing.

For example, the actions of blood brothers and sisters were more similar than in the case of half-relatives, although they grew up and were brought up in the same conditions.
