Diaper candidiasis - this disease develops in 4-6% of newborns. The causative agent is a fungus of the genus Candida. Most often, the fungus enters the child's body during childbirth during the passage of the fetus through the birth canal of the mother, who suffers from thrush of the external genital organs or is simply a carrier of Candida fungi without clinical manifestations.

Another source of infection for newborns can be non-compliance with the sanitary and epidemic regime in the maternity hospital, that is, infection of babies occurs through poorly washed diapers. Another reason for the development of the disease is the peculiarities of the skin of infants, which in newborns is very delicate, contains many blood and lymphatic vessels. Its outer layer is weakly connected to other layers of the skin. And microtraumas during swaddling, irritation, high temperature, humidity, insufficient hygienic care contribute to the penetration of fungi into its deep layers.

Diaper candidiasis most often appears in the axillary and inguinal folds, as well as on the skin around the anus, navel, and buttocks. Allergic conditions of the baby, prolonged use of antibacterial drugs, improper, irrational feeding, disruption of the gastrointestinal tract also causes the development of candidiasis.

As a treatment, the doctor may prescribe medication. If this disease is not treated, the fungus can affect other organs and systems, that is, the mucous membrane of the esophagus, stomach, intestines, lungs, urinary tract, cardiovascular and nervous systems, and in some cases the entire body as a whole. This is especially true for premature babies who were born with low body weight in combination with skin lesions (dermatitis, pemphigus), and babies who took antibiotics immediately after birth.

Symptoms of candidiasis

In places where there were diaper rash, there are sharply limited areas of reddening of the skin, on which thin-walled bubbles with liquid inside appear. They can merge and become large. When the wall of such a bubble cracks, a red erosion with a wetting surface forms in its place. Later in this place the skin begins to peel off.

The disease can also occur in the form of patchy red lesions with a smooth, shiny surface on the baby's skin, in the middle of which there are cracks and areas of grayish-white skin peeling. This is accompanied by intense itching.

When to contact your local doctor

In the event of a rash on the skin of a child.

How to help a child before the doctor arrives

1. To prevent baby's oral thrush, wipe his mouth with a solution of baking soda (4-5 times a day). This should be done until the age of 3 months, until the child has formed its own slightly alkaline environment in the mouth.

2. Strive to keep breastfeeding your baby. It will help reduce allergic manifestations on the skin, if they were not caused by a violation of the mother's diet (the use of citrus fruits, chocolate, etc.). In addition, breast milk allows the baby to better resist other infections. At the same time, your own nutrition must be enriched with proteins and vitamins, and sweets should be limited.

3. Do not use underclothes, organic synthetic diapers and undershirts, which can cause diaper rash. It is unacceptable for a child to stay in a wet diaper or diaper for a long time!

4. After each urination or bowel movement, you need to wash the baby with a decoction of chamomile and calendula herbs.

5. Bathe your child daily in decoctions of chamomile and calendula herbs.

6. Give your baby air baths as often as possible (at an air temperature in the room of 23-25 ° C), that is, leave the baby for several minutes without a diaper, diapers or panties, allowing him to freely move his legs.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Memory module for smartphones UFS 4.0 1 TB 27.02.2024

Micron has announced the release of its smallest UFS 4.0 flash memory module, measuring just 9 by 13 millimeters. Memory capacity remains at 1 TB, and maximum read and write speeds reach 4300 and 4000 MB/s, respectively.

This module is intended for use in future flagship smartphones. It is based on 232-layer 3D NAND memory developed jointly by Micron laboratories in the US, China and Korea. This made it possible to free up additional space inside the case for installing more capacious batteries, which became a request from manufacturers.

Micron engineers managed to reduce the size of the UFS 4.0 chip by 20% compared to the previous 11 by 13 mm model, which was introduced in June last year. This allowed us to reduce power consumption without losing performance.

In addition, Micron introduced a new feature called HPM (High-Performance Mode), a patented technology that improves memory performance by 25% during intensive smartphone use.

Micron has already started shipping the first samples of UFS 4.0 to its major customers in three versions - 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB.

The first smartphones with Micron UFS 4.0 memory are expected to hit the market in the second half of 2024.
