Otitis is an acute inflammation of the middle ear, which often occurs in children at an early age (up to three years). At this age, the features of the anatomical structure of the ear contribute to the easy infection in the middle ear. This is a short, wide and more horizontal Eustachian tube - a passage between the nasopharyngeal cavity and the middle ear. The development of otitis contributes to the imperfect immune system of a small child, who is more prone to colds than older children. Distinguish purulent and catarrhal otitis. The first is treated with antibiotics prescribed by the doctor. The second - compresses, ear drops, etc. The nature of the disease must be determined by the doctor!

Sometimes the result of the development of an inflammatory process in the ear can be a rupture of the eardrum (the membrane that separates the middle ear from the external auditory canal), and then the pus breaks into the external auditory canal. Immediately after the rupture, the amount of pus released increases, but subsequently decreases, its release stops altogether. But this is not a sign of recovery, on the contrary, the disease becomes chronic.

The first symptoms of the disease

Pain in the ear and in the head, which can be mild (tingling) or intense.

Increased body temperature.

Sometimes vomiting occurs.

The child becomes lethargic.

In infants, the first signs of otitis media may be restless sleep, fever, turning the head in different directions, crying in response to an attempt to press the tragus of the diseased ear.

Otitis media is often accompanied by hearing loss.

When to see a doctor

When the first signs of otitis appear. Emergency care is not required, except for high fever in infants and severe pain with pus.

What to do before the doctor arrives

Place a warm alcohol solution of 3% boric acid in your child's ear twice a day. Dip the pipette into a glass of hot water for a few seconds, then quickly draw up the boric acid with the heated pipette. The pipette will warm her up. Lay the child on its side and drip 2-1 drops of the solution into the ear (depending on age).

Put a compress with camphor oil on your ear for 2 hours, preferably before going to bed. Then wrap your ear with a warm scarf.

If the nose is blocked, instill vasoconstrictors (naphthyzinum, etc.).

Folk remedies for otitis media

Put a geranium leaf, previously washed and dried, in your ear. After 10-15 minutes, the pain will subside a little.

In case of severe pain, make an application on a sore ear with a cake prepared as follows: knead wheat flour, rye flour, oatmeal flour on camphor alcohol, previously diluted in water in a ratio of 1: 2. Add a beaten chicken egg, 1 teaspoon of linseed oil. Make a lozenge with a hole in the middle for the pinna (to keep it free) and apply it to the affected ear. Put compress (waxed) paper on top, wrap with a woolen scarf. Keep the compress all night.

Tincture of peppermint leaves (20% solution) or lemon balm (10% solution). Bury 6-8 drops in the ear 3-4 times a day.

Tincture or infusion of bittersweet nightshade, calendula, decoction of lavender flowers.

Lavender oil is instilled into the sore ear 4-6 drops 3-4 times a day.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Bees hold onto pollen 08.12.2017

Scientists at the Georgia Institute of Technology investigated how bees carry pollen into their hives. It turned out that the long hair on the legs of the bees helped to securely hold the prey.

Bees are known to not only carry pollen between plants, they also bring it back to the hive for food. These "pollen granules", which also include nectar and can make up to 30% of a bee's weight, hang from their hind legs like overstuffed saddlebags. Now scientists have studied how reliably the bees carry their precious cargo.

To do this, the team captured about two dozen insects returning to their hives and examined their legs and pollen using high-resolution imaging and an x-ray-like technique. It turned out that the long hairs on the insects' legs helped hold the pollen granules in place.

The researchers then tried to tear off some of the pollen granules with an elastic string. They found that the pellets, although they seemed loose, were in fact firmly attached: the force required to tear off the pellets was about 20 times greater than the force that a bee normally experiences during flight.

The team believes these results could help scientists develop artificial pollinators in the future.
