FUNDAMENTALS OF FIRST AID
Chicken pox. Medical care for a child Directory / Fundamentals of First Aid Chicken pox (or chickenpox) - This is an acute infectious disease that is caused by a virus and is manifested by an increase in body temperature and blistering (vesicular) rashes on the skin and mucous membranes. Sources of infection are children already sick with chickenpox. They shed the virus during respiration, starting from the tenth day of the incubation period (then there may still be no symptoms of the disease) and up to the fifth day after the last rash appeared. Since chickenpox is transmitted by airborne droplets, the susceptibility to this infection in children is very high. Only children of the first 3 months of life do not become infected with smallpox, because they have antibodies in their blood that were transmitted from the mother at the end of pregnancy. An increase in the incidence rate is observed in children by the age of two, but it reaches the highest rates in younger schoolchildren. The virus enters the respiratory tract along with the air. From the lungs, it quickly enters the bloodstream and with it enters the cells of the skin and mucous membranes. There it multiplies and causes inflammation. As a result, stratification of tissues occurs in the skin layers and on the mucous membranes, where interstitial fluid accumulates. This is how rashes are formed, that is, vesicles, or, as they are also called, vesicles. A few days after the appearance of the bubbles crack, in their place there are small wounds, which then become covered with a crust. The vesicles should not be combed, as a secondary infection may occur, and then the contents of the vesicles become purulent. Rashes with chickenpox do not disappear simultaneously, but with an interval of 1-2 days. On the 3-5th day, the temperature usually drops. If the body is very weakened, such vesicles can also form on the internal organs - the liver, kidneys, lungs, pancreas. This is a complicated course of the disease, which is accompanied by severe intoxication of the body with vomiting and high fever. It is being treated in a hospital. The incubation period (the period that lasts from the moment the infectious agent enters the child's body until the first signs of the disease appear) in chickenpox lasts from 10 to 21 days. Symptoms of the disease Sometimes the first symptom is drowsiness, lethargy, disturbed sleep, poor appetite. Increase in body temperature up to 38-39°C. Simultaneously with the temperature or 1-2 days later, rashes appear on the skin, and not all at once, but gradually. Most often, vesicles occur on the face and scalp, shoulders, chest, abdomen, limbs in the form of spots and bubbles filled with fluid. They are also localized on the mucous membranes of the oral cavity, eyelids, and nose. The appearance of new vesicles may again be accompanied by an increase in body temperature, a deterioration in the general condition. There may be a state of general intoxication. The rash is accompanied by itching of the skin. When to see a doctor When rashes appear and body temperature rises, be sure to call a doctor from the clinic. A rash can appear with various diseases (allergies, scarlet fever, etc.). Only a doctor can make a correct diagnosis. What to do before the doctor arrives 1. Provide your child with bed rest. 2. At a high temperature, give the patient analgin or paracetamol in age-appropriate doses. 3. The child should drink more - juices, fruit drinks, tea. 4. Lubricate the rashes with a 1% solution of brilliant green or a 10% solution of potassium permanganate (potassium permanganate), but be sure to leave a few pimples before the doctor arrives. 5. If rashes appear on the mucous membranes, let the child rinse his mouth or irrigate the mucous membrane with infusion of calendula, chamomile, furatsilina solution. Lubricate the bubbles on the mucosa with a solution of brilliant green, diluted in half with boiled water. 6. You should not wash and bathe, so as not to spread the infection. 7. Isolate the sick child from other children. Author: Basharova N.A.
