Safe Operation

1. General safety requirements

1.1. To perform work on servicing thicknessing machines, persons who do not have medical contraindications and have passed:

  • induction training;
  • fire safety briefing;
  • initial briefing at the workplace;
  • training in safe methods and techniques of work according to a special program, who have completed an internship and have a certificate for the right to service a certain type of machine.
  • instructing on electrical safety at the workplace and checking the assimilation of its content.

1.2. When working on thicknessing machines, personnel must undergo:

  • repeated briefing on labor safety at the workplace at least every three months;
  • unscheduled briefing: when changing the technological process or labor protection rules, replacing or modernizing production equipment, fixtures and tools, changing working conditions and organization, in case of violations of labor protection instructions, breaks in work for more than 60 calendar days (for work, to which are subject to increased security requirements - 30 calendar days);
  • dispensary medical examination in accordance with the order of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation No. 90 dated 14.03.1996

1.3. Personnel on thicknessing machines are required to:

  • comply with the internal labor regulations established at the enterprise;
  • comply with the requirements of this manual, fire safety instructions, electrical safety instructions;
  • comply with the requirements for the operation of equipment;
  • use for its intended purpose and take care of the issued personal protective equipment.

1.4. Personnel on thicknessers must:

  • be able to provide first (pre-medical) assistance to the victim in an accident;
  • know the location of first aid, primary fire extinguishing equipment, main and emergency exits, evacuation routes in case of an accident or fire;
  • perform only the assigned work and not transfer it to others without the permission of the foreman or head of the workshop;
  • during work, be attentive, not be distracted and not distract others, do not allow persons who are not related to work to the workplace;
  • keep the workplace clean and tidy.

1.5. The thickness planer must have protective devices that prevent during operation:

  • human contact with moving elements and cutting tools .;
  • overhang of the cutting tool or its elements;
  • ejection of workpieces by a cutting tool;
  • the possibility of going beyond the established limits of the moving parts of the machine.

1.6. The processing area must be covered with a protective device that opens during the passage of the material or tool being processed only to a height and width that correspond to the overall dimensions of the material being processed.

1.7. Protective devices of mechanisms and assemblies that are periodically rearranged and adjusted must be designed in such a way that they can be installed or opened without the use of assembly tools.

1.8. The locking device must prevent the possibility of starting the machine when the protective devices are open or removed. The protective device must be made of solid sheet material.

1.9. Protective devices must not:

  • reduce the illumination of the workplace;
  • increase the noise generated by the moving parts of the machine;
  • interfere with the operation of the machine;
  • hinder waste disposal.

1.10. On thicknessing machines, the directions of rotation of the cutting elements must be clearly marked.

1.11. The design of the machine must include receivers for collecting waste and substances harmful to humans and directing their device for removal and transportation

1.13. Each thickness planer must have a manual or remote input switch, which must be located in a convenient place for operation and with the help of which the electrical equipment must be disconnected from the network.

1.14. Personnel on thicknessing machines must know and observe the rules of personal hygiene. Eat, smoke, and rest only in specially designated rooms and places. Drink water only from specially designed installations.

1.15. If any malfunctions of equipment, fixtures, tools and other shortcomings or hazards are found in the workplace, immediately inform the foreman or head of the workshop. You can start work only with their permission after the elimination of all deficiencies.

2. Safety requirements before starting work

2.1. Wear proper clothing

2.2. Check the availability and serviceability of the serviced machine;

  • fences, drives, as well as live parts of electrical machine control equipment.
  • grounding devices
  • safety devices and blocking devices.
  • tool holders.
  • make sure that the start-up of the machine does not threaten anyone.

2.3. Check the availability and serviceability of hand tools (chisel, scraper, clamps, saws, measuring instruments). Remove the faulty tool from the workplace.

2.4. Make sure that the workplace and the main passages to it are sufficiently lit.

3. Safety requirements during work

3.1. Personnel on thicknessing machines must follow the instructions for servicing the machines set out in the passport or technical description of the machine, as well as the requirements of the warning tables available on the machine.

3.2. Install the cutting tool and change the workpiece only after the machine has completely stopped.

3.3. Thicknessing machines must have built-in anti-blowout devices on the feed side. The elements of this device must ensure reliable grip of the workpiece and independently return to its original position.

3.4. On thicknessing machines designed for simultaneous processing of several workpieces of varying thickness, the front feed rollers and front clamps must be sectional

3.5. Thicknesser machines must be equipped with a locking device that does not allow the table to be moved in height by a mechanical drive when the knife shaft is rotating.

The bearing housings of the knife shaft should not protrude above the surface of the tables from the side of the machine workplace and should not have protruding parts.

4. Safety measures in emergency situations

4.1. If problems occur in the operation of the machine, stop the operation of the machine, disconnect it from the network and report to the work manager.

4.2. In the event of a fire, it is necessary to suspend work and take measures to extinguish the fire using available means. If it is impossible to extinguish the fire on your own, you must call the fire department in the prescribed manner and inform the work manager.

5. Safety requirements at the end of work

5.1. Clean up the workplace, turn off the electrical equipment of the machine, remove waste lumber, shavings, sawdust, clear passages of foreign objects, put the tool in the designated place.

5.2. Take off your overalls and put them in the designated place, wash your face and hands, and if possible, take a shower.

5.3. Report any malfunctions in the woodworking machine to the foreman.
