OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH
Instructions on labor protection for a machine operator of woodworking machines engaged in the processing of workpieces on construction machines. Full document Occupational Safety and Health / Standard instructions for labor protection Safe Operation 1. General requirements for labor protection 1.1. General safety requirements are set out in the Instruction "General safety requirements for professions and types of work in furniture production". A woodworking machine operator engaged in the processing of workpieces. 1.2. Hazardous and harmful production factors: moving machines and mechanisms, moving parts of production equipment, moving products, workpieces, materials, increased noise level at the workplace. Sources of factors: rotating knife shafts, rotating knife heads, rotating feed rollers, moving feeders, rotating belt drives, workpieces fed into the machine; processing process. Effect of factors: possible contact with rotating and moving parts of the machine, the possibility of breakage and escape of knives, the possibility of reverse departure of workpieces; negative impact of noise on the hearing organs. 1.3. Personal protective equipment: cotton suit; goggles; hearing protection. 2. Safety requirements before starting work 2.1. Check the correct installation and fastening of the knives. The blades of the knives should protrude beyond the edge of the clamping wedge chipbreaker by no more than 1,5 mm, the knives describe circles of the same radius. 2.2. Check that the feed and idler rollers and pressure jaws are correctly adjusted. Corrugated rollers should not have cracks, worn surfaces, chipped ribs, ridges contaminated with resin and chips, which can lead to slipping of the rollers during operation and ejection of workpieces. 2.3. Check safety stops, additional curtains, lingering claws, sectors, slats. Safety stops must be lowered. 2.4. Check the condition of the knife shaft. The knife shaft must be cylindrical, balanced and free from runout in the bearings. Before starting the machine, the knife shaft must be closed with a casing. Make sure that the knife shaft rotates in the same direction as the material. 2.5. Check the serviceability of the limits of the limiting section of the material in front of the feeder. 2.6. Check the serviceability of the brake device, grounding devices, blocking of the feed mechanism with the knife shafts of the machine, starting devices. The feed mechanism is interlocked with the knife shafts so that stopping any of them causes the feed mechanism to stop. 2.7. Check the presence and serviceability of the cutting tool guards, falling mechanisms, belt drives. 3. Safety requirements during work 3.1. Feed blanks into the feed rollers without breaks, end to end. 3.2. Make sure that the thickness of the supplied workpieces is the same. Keep your hands away from the feed rollers. 3.3. If the workpiece is jammed in the rollers, stop the machine, after the knife shaft has completely stopped, remove the workpiece. 3.4. Processing of workpieces longer than 1,5 m is carried out using auxiliary tables or rollers installed in front and behind the machine. 3.5. The smallest length of the workpiece to be processed must be 100 mm greater than the distance between the axes of the feeder rollers. 3.6. Do not remove chips with a thickness of more than 2 mm in one pass. 3.7. Do not treat frozen wood and wood with large cracks. 3.8. Machine operators serving one machine should coordinate their actions, if necessary, reduce the feed rate. 3.9. Do not work in gloves. To protect your hands, use special handhelds. 3.10. Inspection, cleaning, wiping, checking the quality of processing parts, fixing fences, manual removal of waste from the machine should be carried out only when the knife shafts are completely stopped. 3.11. If there is a knock, vibration, change in the nature of the noise, overheating of the cutting tool, turn off the machine and inform the master. 4. Safety requirements in emergency situations 4.1. Turn off equipment. 4.2. Post a table about the malfunction of the machine or equipment and report this to the direct management. 4.3. In the event of a fire or extinguishing a flame, use a nearby fire extinguisher. 4.4. The victim or bystander must notify the appropriate work manager of each accident or poisoning. 4.5. The worker must be able to provide first aid. Such assistance is provided immediately, directly at the scene and in the following sequence: first you need to eliminate the energy source of injury (switch off the engine, stop the mechanism, remove the victim from under the car, a heavy object, etc.). Assistance should begin with the most significant that threatens life or health (in case of severe bleeding, apply a tourniquet, and then bandage the wound; if a closed fracture is suspected, apply a splint; with open fractures, first bandage the wound and then apply a splint; in case of burns, apply a dry bandage ; in case of frostbite, gently rub the affected area using soft or fluffy tissues). If spinal injury is suspected, transport the victim only in the supine position on a rigid base. 4.6. After providing first aid, the victim should be sent to the nearest medical facility. 5. Safety requirements at the end of work 5.1. Turn off equipment. Wait for it to come to a complete stop. Tidy up the workplace: remove tools, fixtures; clean the machine from dirt and dust; wipe and lubricate the rubbing parts of the machine; neatly fold the finished parts and the remaining material. 5.2. Cleaning of wood waste (sawdust, shavings, dust) from the surface of the equipment, as well as from overalls, is carried out with a brush, sweep or using vacuum cleaners. It is unacceptable to blow the machine and clothes with compressed air. 5.3. Rags used during work and when cleaning, put the rags in a special metal box with a closing lid and take it outside the workshop to a specially designated place. 5.4. Wash hands with warm water and soap. 5.5. Report all noticed shortcomings in the operation of the equipment to the shift worker or foreman.
